Having been unable to get out on our 40th wedding anniversary, a friend offered to stay with my elderly Outlaws so my Lovely Cousin and I could have a belated day out to celebrate.
Nothing fancy; just a drive around Somerset to some of our favourite venues, stopping to admire the views as we went.
Rickford Chapel and mill-pond, not far from The Rock of Ages.
Dam and main run-off.
We’ve had so much rain recently that the dam had overflowed in places.
The pond originally fed a paper mill and a flour mill. The mill house still stands but the flour mill was lost in a fire.
Herriot’s Pool, part of Chew Valley Lake, one of several that supplies water to Bristol.
A swan with it’s beak tucked under its feathers.
An Osprey, I think.
The view from our old camper van when we stopped for a brew.
Another of Bristol’s water supplies. Blagdon Lake viewed from the dam above the pumping station.
Despite the floods elsewhere, the lake hasn’t recovered yet from a low rainfall earlier in the year, hence the dry spillway.
Looking along the top of the dam to the village of Blagdon.
One of the local residents buoyed up after a good preening session.
After that we called in at a local farm shop before heading home for a tea of pig tart (pork pie), Wyfe of Bath cheese, and cake.
