Today is the 80th Anniversary of the first bombing of Darwin by the the Japanese.
The government of the day kept very quiet about it

Some years back on another Australian holiday we stayed in Darwin and went to the war museum there . It has a lot of stuff about the attack ,as we were leaving a coach drew up and disgorged a load of Japanese tourists . Funny feelings !

The British Navy also started their attack on the Dardanelles on this day, (19th of Feb,) in 1915. And the US marines landed on Iwo Jima in 1945.
