Just as an aside, being from East Germany, I can confirm that. The rhythm of work was determined by a notorious shortage in material which would regularly lead to considerable overtime. As in your example, people would be sent home when there was a bottleneck but would still get paid since it was not their fault when there was no material and they also benefitted from a constant labour shortage . Apparently, empty building sites looked better than idle workers hanging out in them. Taking time off was less common for those working in factories where workers had to clean machines without cease.
It should be added, though, that overtime payment was lousy and that they couldn’t buy anything anyway. Extra time off as a compensation for working asocial hours was thought to be fair.

Are you seeing how Musk is finding the wasteful spending from the former administration. The other departments don’t want Musk to get access to their books because they will find more government waste.
That is what the incompetent socialist are well known for. He may even find funds going into representative pockets or foundations.
Time are good.
Musk seems to want to use his DOGE vandalism to grab data that is not for him to grab. A federal judge has just blocked his team from taking citizens data from treasury record - social security numbers, bank accounts, etc. It is hard to see how taking people’s private data will enable efficiency savings. It is not hard to see how Musk could monetise this data. This is, use your data to make himself even more money. And how secure would that data be once he and his team has taken it away.
And now the law suits against unfair dismissal from groups of sacked workers.
Seems pretty certain that the glee and gloating will soon fade into expensive legal actions, into starvation & deprivation in poor countries and Musk rapidly ducking back to bolster his floundering companies. My prediction - by the end of this year Musk will be a footnote, Trump will be making more outrageous announcements to deflect attention away from the DOGE failings and all will DOGE actions leave a trail of problems to be addressed. Lets see.
The usual hyperbole, Lincolnshire. Musk has no interest nor benefit in amassing personal data (but thank you for caring), but challenges were expected and beneficial in keeping auditor on the straight and narrow. There is no doubt that mistakes will be made regarding executive vs. legislative powers, so the check by the judicial system will turn its wheels. In the meantime, the Congressional Committee on Oversight is already working on the legislative side.
As for humanitarian relief, Waivers were offered from the get-go and direct aid was ordered to continue; many submitted, many waived on the spot:
The Wall Street Journal, which is one of the most liberal publications in the U.S. just reported that the initial audit is showing that 9 out of 10 dollars are NOT reaching the people who need it. Billions of dollars have been lost or raked off the top. USAID, as it turns out is an unfettered, unregulated, un-audited branch of the government used as a massive money laundering and manipulation machine.
The interesting thing is that these big NGOs aren’t talking about the people in need - they are talking about how it is going to impact their bloated organization. Let’s look at Catholic Charities, one of the biggest recipients of USAID funds (who have also applied for a waiver, btw).
How far down do you have to read in this article before Catholic Charities talks about their concern for those in need instead of their own employees? I will save you the read; they don’t talk about those in need AT ALL. CC has become a machine to create internal wealth by taking money from taxpayers.

The gloating and glee is misplaced. There is so much trashing being done, some not legally, that it will end in tears - with much suffering along the way. I know you can’t make a frittata without breaking eggs, but if you also break the kitchen in the process then people end up going hungry.

So legal action aside, what checks and balances are in place at the DOGE to prevent Musk getting carried away with his own enthusiasm? Presumably a democratic country doesn’t allow one un-elected person with so much power to account only to himself and the President?

Checks and balances are being performed and if they don’t like it bring to the Presidents attention and steps are taken from there. What Mush has done so far has been done very effectively.
These kind of questioning sounds like they are trying to hide something. Not because they are upstanding citizens because if they were honest they would not mind. Not because it invading on honest people, it because the dirt bags are trying to hide in among the honest people.
Why don’t you want to find the 6.5 million people that are older than 112 years old. Sounds like they will lose votes once the checks and balances are done.

You have misunderstood.
I didn’t ask whether checks and balances are being performed, I asked what checks and balances are in place to ensure that “Mush” doesn’t get carried away with his own power trip. A different question to the one you answered. You may be unable to answer the question I asked because there aren’t any checks and balances.
In terms of research perhaps you should do some on the importance of separation of powers when governing a country. Trump and “Mush” seem to be treating the US as a business they own. Accountability seems to be a dirty word.
