The local Bunnings hardware store had plenty.
90% of them Made in China
As youse all know, Bretrick tries his best to avoid, Made in China.
There were Australian owned companies selling garden hoses but they were Made in China
I bought a Garden Hose that was not Made in China
It was Made in Italy.
Twice the price of the Garden Hose Made in China but Bretrick says, buy stuff not Made in China
That’s all well and good Bret, but, where is the water you are using made?
So twice as much Australian money sent overseas? I can’t see the benefit there.
I try to buy Made in England , but its hard to find anything ,Food is a major import from abroad, along with clothing .
I remember seeing in a supermarket in the UK two piles of brown onions each exactly the same price one labelled “Product of France” the other labelled “Product of Italy”. Nothing wrong with their source but why didn’t they just have one pile of brown onions? It seemed very strange to me.
There were no Australian made hoses at Bunnings. A large percentage of goods on Australian shelfs come from overseas.
Yes most things in supermarkets are plastic wrapped , not loose , cheaper to buy loose ,
So perhaps theres more profit in wrapped produce ,Potatoes come in plastic bags to , but then if they were loose you have people picking over them …
English potatoes have been dire this year!
On rare occasions there are times when I celebrate buying stuff made in China…
Gerrard Street Soho… China Town in London .
Best go early in the day, I took this picture around 11:00 I think, it was already heaving!
I know, that was rather my point, if you are going to send money overseas buying a Chinese hose would have sent less money out of the country and slightly rebalanced the massive surplus we have in trade with China.
Whereas we run a trade deficit with Italy and you added to that deficit by buying that expensive hose. It seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
They are available loose here, depending on what I am cooking I pick the size I want.
British for me…
When Sue and I were in Brittany we visited a local supermarket. Every shelf had product of France. I don’t blame them for promoting home producrd goods, then I thought how inward looking these people are. At least here in the UK we at least have a world wide choice of what we want to buy. Maybe the reason France and UK have never got on well with each other
Its been years since I went in a Big Supermarket regular , in fact 2019 when Covid arrived .Online shopping became a thing, with my hubby with Cancer I hardly set foot out the door .
Maybe its like that here ,perhaps I should visit one for the experience .
