Why is it certain jobs that need doing are still waiting to be done?

Do you have any?
I have been wanting to paint my lounge room for 6 months.
I have the paint and every morning I look at it and say, “There is no pressing need to do it today”
On the weekend I was determined to start. Needed to have shower, shave and breakfast first.
Plus too cold now, being Winter.
So, waiting for warmer weather.

I still have my dad’s To Do list on the fridge. It has a list of all sorts of ordinary tasks, but the first item reads, “Build coffin.”

I have great memories of the lively conversation about it beforehand, full of good ideas (using walnut from the tree of his childhood home) and roaring laughter. Sadly, he passed away before it finished it. Perhaps finish it for myself?

Gosh, I miss that extraordinary man every day.

Now back to the list…

Its the state of the nation’s roads that really bug me. Massive pot holes everywhere but no bugger does sod-all about them🤬

Round here they waste a whole lot of money paying a whole lot of men (half of them just watching the other half) to stuff a load of stones and tarmac into the potholes. A week later and the traffic has dislodged it all and the pothole smiles up at you again. Waste of time. Waste of money. Once again the UK has all the gear and no idea

JCB have developed and produced a great road mending machine, but I have no idea how many local authorities have bought one🤷‍♂️

There is a lot more traffic on the roads, vehicles are heavier and the original roads weren’t built to cope. Instead of patching every year maybe the answer, in some places, would be to re-do the whole road with something more substantial.
I don’t know :woman_shrugging: I’m not an engineer, but if you keep patching a favourite pair of jeans they will eventually be so weak they will not be fit for purpose.

Don’t worry, you’re not the only ones. Our roads are full of patches, done very miserably. Seeing half a chilometre of new tarmac has become so rare that when we see this we just stare in amazement :astonished: An entire road being redone? It’s been decades :face_with_diagonal_mouth: No chance!

That is a very slick machine!

I have a car-eating pothole just down the road. I have called the city, but I can hear them shrug their shoulders over the phone.

I’ve been meaning to order a salt pig for some time now…

Cardboard boxes tend to look the worse for wear!

I had one of those as a wedding present. I found the salt got damp and lumpy and in the summer all manner of flying, creeping, crawling nasties would use it as a private beach!
It now homes my washing up scrubby!
:joy: :hushed:

Oh dear!
Perhaps I should put that particular job off for a little bit longer :+1:

The physical and emotional costs of having to achieve this have stirred my sincerest empathy.

And yet I’m still in a state of limbo as far as salt piggery is concerned…

A DIY nut I had to crack

Found Bretrick’s thread and thought I fitted my case as well.

As to the question in the thread title, this is for various reasons. My reason was that I simply had no idea how to solve the problem or maybe I didn’t get my teeth into it and shied away from the effort…

There is something I’d been preoccupied with for a few years now. If it had been possible to do it quickly, I would have replaced the old fridge with an extra freezer long ago.
The prize question is: How do you get a fridge out of a shed when the weight of an entire wall of shelves rests on a kitchen worktop lying on top of the fridge and when removing and reattaching the whole shelf is no option as it would be even more time-consuming and hardly feasible for one person alone?

Here you can see the fridge and part of the wall of shelves .

Any suggestions?
