Why has 'British' beef doubled in price?

Was just looking at mince beef on the Waitrose website - it’s now £7.50 for 500g! Just last year it was 2 for £8!!! And if you go back a couple of years it was usually part of the 3 for £10 offers.

Is it because there is less competition from Europe now?

Farage and his chums have got a lot to answer for! The brexshiteers!

Maccys are holding firm, thankfully.

Because it is british, not some cheap frozen import that comes from countries that don’t have the same strict regulations as we do

RS, by that thinking, you may be making the in house rich even richer!!

An ambitious and surprising claim for the country that gave the world Mad Cow Disease and Salmonella chicken.

What about Edwina’s Curry?

Meat priced have rocketed up here too because of the world market price over 60% of our meat is exported.

Some current prices from Coles supermarket Note some prices are 500gm, some 1kg as marked.

Diced beef $10.50 per 500g (just over £5) - Halve the dollar price for pounds
Minced Beef $10/500gm
Grass feed minced beef $11/500gm
Rump Steak $22/kg
Kangaroo Fillet Steak $15/500gm
Kangaroo Mince $15/kg
Chicken Mince $6/500gm
Turkey Mince $14/kg

Turkey mince is always good value.

Edit

One thing I remember from my last visit to the UK was that generally speaking supermarket food prices were much cheaper than here BUT restaurant prices were ridiculously much higher than here - even fast food. What we paid in dollars, in the UK the same thing was the same number of pounds (ie twice as much).
