I have experienced that, Besoeker. The one time I travelled home by car ferry from Holyhead - we went into a cafe hoping for breakfast before boarding the ferry and suddenly everyone switched from English to Welsh. On the ferry the crew were mostly Welsh and not particularly friendly. I would say that was the exception rather than the norm though - as I have usually found the Welsh to be friendly people.

Yes, it’s a shame that SOME of them do that.
Not all of course. I remember when we were there several years ago, a young(ish) lady almost in tears telling us that she was lost (perdu), and we tried our best to explain that we were English and didn’t really know where we were either! We wanted to help, but were not much help, I’m afraid.
Well if more of us learnt French, we could do the same thing to them when they come here.
