Why Are Things Cheaper To Buy Up North?

If Labour get their way, a lot more house building will take place👇

I can remember a speech in Parliament when the then shadow housing minister Emma Reynolds revealed new figures showing that since 2010, the number of homes built by SME firms has dropped from 27% to 24%, with an estimated 1,131 SME builders lost from the industry in this time. This contributed to 356 fewer homes being built every day, which Ms. Reynolds had blamed on the Conservative party, which she says had

“presided over the lowest levels of house-building in peacetime since the 1920s.”

Ms. Reynolds revealed proposals that a Labour Government would introduce a Help to Build scheme to allow SMEs to access lower-cost bank lending backed by Treasury guarantees, as well as fast-track planning for small sites of fewer than ten homes, and a requirement for councils to include a higher proportion of smaller sites* for housing in their five-year plans.
*–> so more infill building then and less houses with a decent size of garden space for children to play in🤷‍♂️

I bought 10 bananas for £1 in a London street market yesterday. I wonder if you can do that up north.

The low prices are due to the fact that you have to mix with Mancunians, Scoucers.

In Yorkshire they have to give the stuff away

In London accommodation is expensive, and sure, we cater for the well heeled. But things can be surprisingly cheap.

Free lunchtime concerts: Royal Opera House, Royal College of Music, LSO at St Luke’s and hundreds more.

Free lunch: there’s always Food & Drink festivals going on, plus good reliable venues like the old Trumans Brewery and Borough Market where you can sample cheeses, Itatian meats, freshly baked bread, bbq’d game, etc etc

Free travel: live in London and you are a short walk from a number of Tube Stns and bus routes taking you everywhere in no time at all.

Free hair cuts: there are loads of hair do academies: Toni & Guy, Vidal Sassoon, and so on. They aim to please.

Free designer clothes: OK maybe not totally free but there are loads dress agencies flogging out of season stuff dead cheap.

And so on. I’ll keep the best bits to myself.
