What is happening to the children of today? There has been a report that a local primary school had to call the police because a pupil was threatening other children with a knife! The first thing that I wondered is how a 10 year old child could leave home carrying a knife, but then some local people were interviewed who said it wasn’t unusual to see children hanging around the local shops with knives tucked into their belts!
Complete lack of respect and discipline. Children are not taught right from wrong, and if they do something wrong, there’s nothing can be done to them.

Blame the do gooders, they’re the ones who stopped parents discipline. Personally I hope those in power get their common sense back and return it.

Some kids are well out of control these days, and soaps like Coronation Street don’t help.
I’ve never seen such a bunch of disrespectful teens in my life. Drugs, knives, and a total lack of responsibilities. Welcome to the new normal…

The question is how do we put the genie back in the bottle?
I don’t know where the line is between physical discipline required for a very badly behaving child and unnecessary cruelty. What I do think though, is that banning the hitting of children (slapping, knuckle rapping, spanking) would have been better if it was accompanied by guidance and insights into how to control children without the use of violence. Now that I’m old I’ve got some experience in applying control without the use of violence - but back as a young adult I’m pretty sure lack of experience and knowledge would lead to frustration, anger and no doubt violence. I’d expect that many parents equally lack that experience and insight.
(Dare we consider the relative harm of psychological control over a quick slap to the leg?)
I could never bring myself to slap a child!
My son has grown up to be a caring socially aware young fella!
It was just about the little things from an early age, not putting his feet on the seats on buses and trains, insisting on the use of please and thank you, in short common courtesy. I have no doubt that will serve him well in the future.
Believe it or not good manners are still noticed and appreciated

It didn’t just happen overnight, insidious springs to mind 
Too right! There’s enough good people out there that I’ve got hope for the future. I think it’s often been as bad in the past, we just see a lot more of it on the internet. A lot of antisocial behaviour that wouldn’t have been big enough to make the news just ends up on social media so more people hear about it.
