USA 2020 - Itinerary

Seeing the travel agent in the morning to hopefully book this thing at last. No doubt there will need to be some last minute alterations but at least we should have all the hotels and flights sorted out and paid for

I thank you all for your valuable advice on this. Please keep posting with ideas on “things to do” once I finalise the details tomorrow

Brilliant! Well done Floydy. The day is finally here.

Thanks mate.
It took three hours but it was worth it. The travel agent was great, very helpful. She found ways to get the most convenient flights (same airline throughout even with internal flights) and some perfectly located hotels near the ammenities. We can even fly initially from Humberside Airport.
Yes, it went great and was inside my budget but I’m several thousand pounds lighter tonight!

Folydy.

Think you should state your stopping places

Can give you advice on LV and NY

Just came back from LV AGAIN booking for next June

I’ve mentioned them in passing on here, Galty, and we have booked some trips in advance. I’ll try to list them later on if I can, bud. Meanwhile, any more advice would be most welcome, thanks

OK

My advice for LV…you will have to pay at your hotel what they call a resort fee about $40 a day on average.

If on the strip and you want to go down town get the bus called the Deuce $8 for 24 hours you can also for the same price get the SDX.

You will have to go downtown to visit the Mob Museum cost about $25 and well worth it.

Have a great Holiday.

I will be back late May and all of June downtown for the poker

Sorry Galty, I got busy last night. This is our itinerary.
I don’t like to plan too much, we’ll take most of it as it comes but we do hope to include most of the following in our journey.
The Mob museum sounds a good choice for Vegas, I’ll add that one. Los Angeles itself we may not touch on, though Hollywood is a must.
We’ve taken into account some of the resort charges at certain destinations, plus the baggage extras you need to pay at airports. It’s all in hand, thanks bud

I saw a show in Vegas, in the most beautiful Venetian Hotel, we saw Phantom of the Opera and it was brilliant.
All of Vegas is brilliant, I wish you could fit me in your suitcase, I’d love to go back, it was the best holiday of my life on a par with Florida. One you won’t forget. So, so excited for you.

I can’t imagine anyone wanting to go to Alcatraz. I spent most of my life doing my best to stay out of there.

Oh right. Whatever mate :104:

The itinerary looks fantastic Floydy. I’d love to visit Alcatraz and luckily you get to leave these days.

Hoover Dam is brilliant btw and about an hour from Vegas. I’m not into these things and I really enjoyed it. Very much recommend it. I agree with LQ about Vegas being fabulous. It was total sensory overload.

I’d love to go back to NY and see ground zero and the changes. Manhattan is great but some of the true character is in places such as Brooklyn and Queens, off the beaten track but where some amazingly talented individuals grew up and were inspired. My bestest memory of NY was going to a cafe in Brooklyn for breakfast where they had the most delicious coffee and freshly baked pastries. It was not on the tourist trail, all locals. But perhaps these days it’s all gentrified and lost. I wonder if they still have those funny water towers.

If I were in New York again I’d love to visit the Cloisters made famous by Herman Wouk and I’ve also seen them as a location in recent tv / movies set in the area :

I reckon we’ll see most of it, Annie. We have a 72-hour ‘hop on/off’ bus ticket so we can travel virtually anywhere I guess.
When it’s nearer the time I’ll be looking through this thread again and noting all of your ideas which appeal to us. Thanks

I am worn out just reading the itinerary, Floydy! One thing I spotted in there that I would really like to see - the Johnny Cash Museum - you’ll have to send me a postcard of that!

I’ll make that a promise of mine, Tabby. Will do

Have you and the wife got your ESTA???

Was just thinking that we haven’t heard from you recently, Floydy. Hope all is okay.

Am I the only one who thinks about this trip sometimes? All the planning etc.

It was to have been a real ‘journey of a lifetime’, Omah. Something Floydy and his wife had planned meticulously. He was so excited about it. I suppose C19 will have put a stopper on it - which is very sad.

I cant believe this thread has been resuscitated…I was just thinking about it the other day…true the virus will have cancelled it but I hope Floydy and his Mrs make it one day…what an adventure
