@Dextrous63 , A good point Dex, probably disappears into the fiscus ??
Like our NI payments !!
It's time to take back our water
Let's bring our water into public ownership.

I could understand fines on companies such as this if, after legal fees, the money was used to clear up the mess and/or upgrade. This presumably would cost more than if the company had done the work in the first place, so the fines would/should reflect this, and then the directors can explain to their own shareholders why the dividends are thus lower than they could have been.
@Dextrous63 , You are right Dex, so it l looks like appropriate fines have
levied, ( £90,000,000 in one case ) that sounds pretty appropriate to me ??
It remains to be seen if they were or are going to be payed !!
I suppose being private they can always declare bankrupcy like most
other crooks ??
Hi
DM £90million is loose change for the water company.
In respect of what happens to the fines the Treasury snaffle it, never to be seen again.
Yes, 90 million clearly doesn’t hurt enough to stop them doing it
They just pay the fine because it’s cheaper for them to dump the sewage and pay the fine than to invest in improvements that mean they don’t dump the dump the sewage
The problem with using the fine money to repair the damage done would mean it takes the responsibility off the water companies to pay to clear up their mess
The same with upgrading
The fine is supposed to be a punishment encouraging them to do the right thing for fear of reduced profits. Why should it be given back to them to clear up their mess or upgrade?
They should be both fined an amount that will make their shareholders wince at loss of dividends and made to clear up their mess and upgrade to stop it happening again under threat of losing their licence or permission to trade here
@swimfeeders , seems that way Swimmy, the state steals the money to
fix the leak and the company goes bankrupt !!
Muggins is left with a shytey beach !!

Which is precisely my point, although you’ve explained it better.
Hi
What could they sue them for, it is a matter between our Government and the Companies.
We are out of the EU now, free to do what we want.that was the point of Brexit.
Yes, that’s it in a nutshell
These are not “the EUs’ companies
They are private companies running our water and sewage systems, for a profit. Some, but not all, of them may be based in EU countries but they don’t belong to the EU
Since Brexit, making them conform to environmental standards in our country is the responsibility of the U.K. government. That’s what the Brexiteers wanted, wasn’t it?
And any country who suffers because of our governments lack of will to do that, is entitled to sue
@Maree , How would they identify the turds ?
What is the difference between and anglosaxon turd and a gallic turd ??
I ask you ??
News on the sewage fiasco!!
UK announced a £25 Billion " investment" in infrastructure to tackle sewage
spills !! I await further clarity on this, but it looks as if uk taxpayers are about
to bail out EU shareholders ??
If so why should this be ?? WTF!!
Found some more on the sewage investmet !
It seems that this a longstanding agreement between government
and sewage companies over 25 yrs,We are currently in the fifth
year, the amount invested is £56 billion and it comes from the
shareholders of the companies!
It seems they have agreed to move the programne forward
by putting £25 billion into work right now due to the urgency
of the situation, so no taxpayer funds needed !!
So we should see some action taking place in the hotspots
pretty soon??
Someone must have had a guilty conscience ??
Remains to be seen if work starts and then continues??
Keep alert and vocal !!
I reitterate that EU Companies own majority shares in British Water
It would be good if you could list this ownership as my brief search found nothing to support this claim. Thank you.
The UK water companies, largely owned by overseas investors but not EU companies, have noted that when the UK left the EU they were no longer required to adhere to EU regulations on water and waste quality. So they could happily pollute rivers and seas with no penalties.
This is a real Brexit benefit. Not.
When you hear this government talking about removing EU rules and regulations what they mean is allowing their friends in such companies to do as they please. Nothing to do with benefiting ordinary people.
Hi
The new agreement is a total con by the government.
It is just a rehash of the existing unenforceable agreement and everyone has an extra £1 a month on the bill to pay for it.
@strathmore , l always said our government had friends in high places
in the EU, thanks for confirming this !! It accounts for lots of things !!
@swimfeeders , lve just been listening to some guy on the radio this
morning, he said the same thing too swimmy !!
All they have done is to repeat their initial pledge when they signed the
contract, there is no new money from the investors !!
I have been unable to findout if the fines are being paid as yet ??
BTW, are you back home yet ?
Hi
Fines have been paid and I am still in hospital until Tuesday at the earliest.
I have been in so long now l am beginning to think I must be ill🤪
Hi
I hope this helps
Let's bring our water into public ownership.
These are the ultimate owners, digging through a minefield of management companies etc
Thanks for that Swimmy, !!l signed the petition for what its worth!
How much did we get when we sold it l wonder ??
I was under the impression that we only leased it out, but your article
says different, if so we are really in the shyte !!The tory party MPs should
all be imprisoned imo !!

Thanks for the comment - unfortunately I do not understand how it relates to my post. What did I say that confirmed what you think?
