Innocent or guilty he has not handled this matter at all well and given he called for Johnsons resignation just for being investigated by the police the fact that he did not feel this applied to him was also pretty dire.
But the investigation into BJ was, seemingly, justified and, as yet, only the Mail seems to be pursuing the matter of Sir Keir’s alleged misdemeanour with vigour. Perhaps there’s no “transgression” but just a Tory rag using smoke and mirrors to create a “story” where there is none …
Surely the fact that the police have reopened the invstigation would suggest that there may be a case to answer. As i stated earlier the Tories do not want Starmer to be found guilty of anythng as he will resign which puts Johnsonand Sunak in a very difgicult position.
Not sure what you feel The Mails role in all this, Starmer did not help his case with the way he handled it, that surely is not in dispute?
There’s no comparison, of course, between what Johnson is guilty of, numerous parties, lying about them to Parliament to cover his backside.
Being the PM who made the rules, then flagrantly breaking them, showing his total contempt for the rest of us.
If he had any decency at all he would have resigned by now, but he doesn’t have any decency, so he hasn’t
Having said that Starmer has scored an own goal with this and the tragedy is it will let the lying Johnson off the hook for his disgusting behaviour
And we’ll be landed for the foreseeable future with a lying, corrupt PM who thinks he’s to good for the laws of the country he imposed on us
It’s a tragedy for the integrity and self-respect of our country
So, even though he hasn’t done anything in the range of vileness that Johnson has, I think Starmer should take one for the good of the country and resign, right now
And then throw out the challenge to Johnson to have the guts and integrity to do the same
Johnson won’t of course, because he’s a self serving weasel who will do anything to hang on
But then the new Labour leader can keep up the pressure and not let what Johnson’s done be swept under the carpet or forgotten
And if Starmer isn’t found guilty or fined, he’ll be vindicated because he resigned while simply accused of something whereas Johnson who won’t resign even though he’s been found guilty of it
And that will also show up Johnson for the self-serving creep with no integrity that he is
All Starmer should have done was make sure the window he was pictured at was open, and providing ventilation, if he is ever after a PR Man.
Well said Dan Wootton:
Typical article:
Nothing Dan Wootton says is ever “well said” - his language and phraseology is always offensive - intentionally so, I think.
I don’t normally read his articles and I switch off GB News when he comes on, but I don’t think there’s much to argue about in that article, you should give it a go.
Ms Rigby asked the Labour leader: "On January 31 you put out a tweet you said ‘honesty and decency matter after months of denial, the Prime Minister is now under criminal investigation for breaking his own lockdown laws. He needs to do the decent thing and resign.’
"So you said then that the Prime Minister should resign because he was under criminal investigation, which you now are as well.
"Isn’t it rather hypocritical? That you said that of him but you’re not prepared to resign right now?
“What do you say to people that say you’re a hypocrite?”
I did read it - typical Dan Wootton - it doesn’t matter who he is slagging off, he has an agenda - he is gratuitously offensive and thinks he is playing to his audience by bringing his vocabulary down to the lowest common denominator - which is in itself patronising and offensive, in my opinion.
I expect he must have some intelligence to be a journalist but he does a good job of making himself sound like an ignorant thug.
Even the Guardian has sussed out his game:
Starmer has a loophole where he could potentially be criticised by the police but not fined – an approach the Durham force took after an inquiry into alleged lockdown breaches by Dominic Cummings, who was then the prime minister’s senior aide.
Answering questions from the media, Starmer indicated he would not necessarily step down if police did not fine him yet said the event could have breached rules.
Keir and Ed are both “Sirs”, Boris isn’t (yet), does that matter?
When you get politicized you have to please people, at the cost of integrity, that is when a person becomes a hypocritical “Oaf”
This is all becoming even more farcical than the “Yes Minister” Comedy series - we now have a situation where both the main party leaders are up the creek without a paddle - and Tory MPs daren’t call for the Labour leader to resign in case it pressures their own leader into having to follow suit -
It is so bizarre, you couldn’t make it up!
No need to, someone else is.
A party source says “documentary evidence” shows Sir Keir Starmer’s team were working until 01:00 BST.
The Guardian said the party has compiled time-stamped logs from WhatsApp chats, documents and video edits which show work continued after the takeaway food was delivered.
Over to BJ’s smear-machine …
I don’t know how many times i need to say this but the Tories are saying very little about ‘Beergate’ because if Starmer is found guilty and is fined he will resign which will put Johnson and Sunak in a very difficult position. So far from smearing the Tories are keeping very quiet unless i am missng somethng.
