I google it and Gene Pitney recorded a version, now Iām not sure which I was grooving to back in '66 (?)

No Gene Pitney didnāt record it at all, Iāve looked at that video and he sounds just like Gene Pitney. Asked hubby as well and he said the same.It was a way to get around the record company.

Oh I see. Iāve googled again and it seems Pitney didnāt record it. Just a rumour going round to get them folk across the pond interested.
Anyway the song, like millions of others, is stuck somewhere in my memory bank, but not the artistās name.
