As I pulled up at Breckler Park today, Saturday 28th December 2024, I immediately heard a Kookaburra talking to another Kookaburra.
Getting out and setting up my camera, I saw one fly off.
“Damn and Blast” I thought. There they go. Missed them again.
But there in the tree above were three Kooks.
Started recording, hoping the other Kook would return with some food for the young ones.
These appear to be the family I videoed in the nest a week ago.
At least that is my story and I am sticking to it.
what a great video they make an amazing call.
.
Lovely Thank you
brilliant video, they look quite big ,what size would you compare them to.Jackdaw ?Crow?
Remarkable beautiful birds!
Bless them, they are panting from the heat. I hope they can find water and shade.
AHHHH thank you Bretrick, you share wonderful posts.
Thanks for sharing Blue.
Wonderful creatures for those unfamiliar. Alert Synchronised & Mesmerising.
Smaller than a crow, about the size of a pigeon, though a little wider across the chest.
These ones are about 30cm , 12" long from head to the end of the tail feathers.
Kookaburras do not drink water. Their moisture requirements come from their food.
They do love to bathe though. Splashing around in the water, flapping their wings, throwing water hither and tither.
In the bird bath at 2.20 (not my video)
Thanks for the show.
Fascinating.Their Unique Concentration Fixation and Alertness.
