It’s not a documentary.
One thing that struck me as a bit odd is why they use cars to travel between the airport and Balmoral. One would have thought that a helicopter would have been faster, and it’s not as though Balmoral estate is too small to have places to land.
The day of the funeral will be a bank holiday. They think it will be held on Monday 19th Sept.
Possibly cost or just for a more human touch? Getting out of a car to speak to the public by the palace is more personal.
There was one Royal Helicopter in use up there - Charles used it on Thursday morning to travel from Dumfries House in Ayrshire to get to Balmoral.
I don’t know why the rest of the family didn’t use it later in the day to travel from the airport - perhaps there was too many of them arriving at the airport together to make it viable to travel by helicopter, with security staff?
Or maybe the bad weather and low visibility was a factor?
I imagine the journey from Balmoral back to Aberdeen airport on Friday did not need to be so rushed and it is only an hour’s drive.
Isn’t there some precaution that the Monarch and the heir apparent never travel together in case of an accident or assassination attempt?
I think it is the same with the President and Vice President in the USA.
I hope it’s the start of healing between them all.
I see Last Night Of The Proms, has been cancelled.
A lot of people will be disappointed about that, especially swimmy!
Hi
Yep, spot on with your post Art.
I also think it is a huge mistake.
It would have been a great tribute, something she always enjoyed and part of our traditions that she loved.
swimmy, It could have been seen as a celebration of her life…
You will be excited to know that Charlie will today be declared King of Australia at Government House in Canberra and then the Governor General will pop down to Parliament House to tell the rest of the nation.
I presume a similar ceremony will take place in each state involving the State Governors.
Same in Canada it seems.
Astonishing moment a cloud resembling Queen Elizabeth floats over English town just hours after she died A cloud formation resembling Queen Elizabeth appeared above an English town just an hour after her death
I spotted a pic on Twitter of the bouquets outside Buckingham Palace, which showed a marmalade sandwich wrapped in cellophane with the words, ‘for later’ written on it. I found that quite touching.
Edited to add, from Sky News
They have left tributes including teddy bears, Corgi soft toys, balloons and marmalade sandwiches, in a nod to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee sketch with Paddington Bear.
The manager of a souvenir shop near Buckingham Palace said the number of customers buying memorabilia doubled overnight following the Queen’s death.
Cool Britannia’s manager, Ismial Ibrahim, described suppliers working overtime and scores of people coming through the shop each day.
Why people leave Teddy Bears is beyond me.
Just a guess but perhaps it’s because of the Paddington bear clip? Maybe children want to comfort her, their way of showing they care.
Oh I think it’s lovely, better than flowers as flowers just die off where a teddy can be kept and they are normally then sent to children’s hospitals, homes, etc.
