Hi Gilly,I went to the surgery several days ago. He gave me some jollop to take every 2 hours or so and said that really plenty of hot drinks and rest is the best possible cure.
The main problem is that I am still full time carer to my wife, and preparing meals for someone else when you do not want any yourself isn’t to be recommended.

Arthur

Arthur, sorry, I don’t mean to interfere, but have you thought how your wife would manage if you made yourself ill?
May I suggest you get some home help or a carer to pop in and help you both, at least until you feel a little better?

That’s a good idea Mups, so long as Arthur can locate somebody trustworthy and not charging an arm and a leg ! It would definitely be worthwhile, though, Arthur to make a few enquiries at least ?

Thanks Gilly.
I don’t know what is available in Bedfordshire, but perhaps Arthur could make some enquiries?

AgeUK might be a good place to start for initial advice.

Good luck Arthur.

(Apologies for going off topic).

Take the advice from Gilly and Mupsy, Arthur.
You know it makes sense. Good luck, mate.

Thanks for all the help and advice. I have a sister in law close who can help with shopping etc. Anyway about midday yesterday I felt like food so had some Salmon and Potatoes with a little veg. I also got a fair bit of sleep in. so am feeling a bit better now, except that I am coughing for England.
Now for the irony. I broke my bottom plate on some toast, so soups are now the order of the day until I can get them repaired.

Best wishes to everyone and keep out of the sun Mr. Ploppy, I see it is due to reach 43C on Tuesday in Perth

Glad you’re feeling a little better Arthur, although that cough doesn’t sound too good.
I hope you continue to improve, but remember there is no shame in asking for a little help sometimes.

Now then, back to the jigsaw . . . Hi Plops & Gilly. :039:

Hi Mups, everytimeI see your lovely GS pic. I get a severe hankering. When we go to the RSPCA or one or two other places that are trying to find homes for dogs, we get turned down as being too old for a dog the size of an ‘Ally’ !! Our last 3 dogs that we had, had lots of Ally in them and the middle one we adopted, was a pedigree G. S.,was 8 years old, so we weren’t expecting him to live much into double figures although he did seem reasonably fit. It turned out that he had epilepsy, which shocked us the first time he through a fit in our garden !

The vet couldn’t offer much help except to not excite him too much, and to suggest giving him certain pills which he prescribed, to keep him quiet.

Any way we sorted him ourselves. I realised that a dogs head was absolutely full of nerves, just like the human is. So keeping an eye on Rex all the time, I noticed his eyes were glazing over a little, one day, so I quickly but quietly moved to his side and started to massage, gently, his beautiful big head. He really enjoyed that and lay down to get the full benefit, bless him. After a short while of this most enjoyable massaging, I noticed that his eyes were bright and he gave me such a big sloppy lick on my cheek !

The last time he ever nearly had a fit, my son noticed Rex was leaning heavily against our hall wall as he staggered towards him, so he quickly adopted my actions and gave Rex a very soothing massage on his forehead. My son did that for several minutes until Rex’s eyes brightened and he gave my son a big sloppy ‘thankyou’ lick across his cheek !

Rex never had another fit and he lived into his 16th year, We scattered his ashes amongst the Pine Trees near the beach at Wells-next-the-Sea in North Norfolk - where he had the most enjoyable holidays every year since we had him.

Sorry for hogging the jigsaw thread. Once I get started, I’m afraid my words don’t know how to stop ! It’s just that picture of Mups’ beautiful German Shepherd, who looks just like our Rex, got me reminiscing.

A lovely story Gilly

Hope you feel better soon Arthur

Sadly, Epilepsy used to be rife in certain lines in the breed.
I won’t hog the thread with a tale of my own, but a lot of it was because of unscrupulous, money grabbing breeders, including the big show names.

You worked miracles keeping your boy going till that age, unusual for that breed. I fully understand the love between you. x

Improving daily now- Healthwise , not jigsaw. Hope to feel well enough to take the bus to get my denture fixed soon. Every one has been so kind, including neighbours.
