I wasn’t referring to Realist, but to the idiots who think they can clone “the Messiah”, Puddle Duck.
YES!! I agree. That part I find very creepy and it wasn’t nice of me to say what I did either way.
Somewhere in this thread I do mention that I found that part creepy.
Very creepy - and why do they want to do it anyway? Do they think a ‘new messiah’ will solve all the ills of the world? He is more likey to take one look and tell them to get lost!
I know. Can you imagine the culture shock?
That entire part I find disturbing. While I find the idea of cloning bodies and body parts somewhat interesting, I find it more frightening than anything. Mankind is essentially too greedy to develop something like this without doing massive damage to the rest of society.
It reminds me of that movie where there were bodies being grown underground strictly for the use of body parts. It was a great movie but disturbing. Does anyone remember the name of that one?
I appreciate Puddle Ducks contributions. I find them very thought provoking
Put aside all the bizarre notions of cloning Jesus and consider what it would mean to test the DNA of Jesus as the Son of God.
Everyone has 46 pairs of chromosomes. A gamete is made of 23 pairs of chromosomes from the mother (ova) and 23 from the father (sperm).
Those chromosomes are made up of genes that are in turn made up of DNA.
If Jesus was the product of immaculate conception, then what does that say about the DNA, genes, and chromosomes of the donor (God)?
Interesting when you think about it.
So do I - Puddle Duck is very knowledgeable.
Hadn’t even thought of that one, Surfermom -now that is really scary!
Yes it is interesting but I still think that it would be discovered that he had 46 pairs of chromosomes just like any other human
Hi
It would be fascinating though.
It would end the argument about whether God was male or female.
How do you tell if a Chromosome is Male or Female?
Simple.
Take it’s genes off.:-p
Swimfeeders, I am much to young and demure to be talking about such things as removing genes . This is a family forum, after all
Imagine it though, was Jesus’ genetic code really half of God’s, if God had genes? What would God’s genome (haploid map of all of his genes) look like?
Would all the genes be dominant?
Would some be recessive for some undesirable traits like a tendency towards anger? Or alcoholism? Or cancer?
Did God fret over the children that would be born of his genome and therefore 1/4 of God’s genes?
Would God just roll the big wheel of trillions of combinations and let is one and only Son be just like every other human? If so, wouldn’t that have been rolling the dice in terms of the man Jesus became?
I really don’t want to be disrespectful, but in worrying about passing down either perfect or imperfect genetic material, might God have made Jesus sterile?
Or did he see in Mary nearly perfect, or with a genome that he wanted in his own Son?
I’ve got my head traveling down this train of thought. Really good stuff.
How could God have genes ?
Unless he were human/humanoid?
If Jesus were truly a man then he would have normal human DNA. For that to be true he must have been conceived from a man and woman’s DNA.
The immaculate conception therefore must have been some form of artificial insemination.
Otherwise Jesus was only a man in terms of outward image.
If he wasn’t really a man but just something else, then the notion of him suffering as a man disappears.
Thus it is hard to see what scientists think to gain from finding/examining the DNA.
Without further information I maintain my belief that Jesus was just an ordinary man, but one of a few who had access to the Philosopher’s Stone, with which he was able to perform seeming miracles, healing etc
Were he the omnipotent creator, wouldn’t he have a bowl of them?
Unless he were human/humanoid?
He might not be, once again the creator argument.
If Jesus were truly a man then he would have normal human DNA. For that to be true he must have been conceived from a man and woman’s DNA.
Agreed. God, via the Bible makes a point of the mortality of Jesus.
The immaculate conception therefore must have been some form of artificial insemination.
Interesting idea!
Otherwise Jesus was only a man in terms of outward image.
If he wasn’t really a man but just something else, then the notion of him suffering as a man disappears.
Christianity argues that Jesus was mortal but also holy. The argument is that God forsakes Jesus on the cross to validate his suffering.
Thus it is hard to see what scientists think to gain from finding/examining the DNA.
Not at all! It might give us more insight into our own mortality, history through genetics…
But then again, how do we really know about the authenticity of any of the samples?
We did come from some increasingly complex genetic structure.
Without further information I maintain my belief that Jesus was just an ordinary man, but one of a few who had access to the Philosopher’s Stone, with which he was able to perform seeming miracles, healing etc
Another interesting consideration.
Hi
I find it amazing that someone can dismiss the beliefs of others in a God yet believe in the Philosophers Stone.
Science should be pure, yet it is twisted by both sides in this discussion for their own ends.
The Creationists use genetics to prove that mankind is only 6000 years old, with a major revision 4500 years ago.
They do this by using the rate of DNA Mutations.
False science.
The Atheists basically believe that we are a random collection of atoms which mysteriously appeared.
In the beginning there was nothing and it exploded.
Can we please leave the Science out of this.
We are babes in arms when it comes to Science.
Humans are arrogant, we think we know everything, yet we know nothing.
We are at the start of a journey, the first faltering steps of a toddler.
We have so much to learn, that is the beauty of Science.
Dismiss the beliefs not in “a” God but in the God portrayed in the Bible. Everything we see around us on a daily basis demonstrates that there does not exist an all caring all powerful entity. There may exist all manner of other Gods but they are for sure, not all powerful nor all loving all caring.
Since the Bible refers to the all powerful (omnipotent), all knowing (omniscient) and everywhere at the same time (omnipresent) God we can dismiss it with the simplest of reasoning. The EVIDENCE all around us proves unquestionably that such a God does not exist. But other Gods who do not meet those attributes might well exist.
As for the Philosopher’s Stone one does not need to “believe” in it or have faith in it. It is simple science, the science of Alchemy. As such it can be tested. It either exists and does what the 100s of texts say it can do, or it doesn’t.
What I can tell you from the outset is that the colours. smells and characteristics that the texts say will be experienced during its creation, are what you experience. It is provable fact. Feel free to try it and prove it to yourself.
It doesn’t prove that the Stone exists or does anything amazing, but it lends great credibility to the 100s of works that describe the Stone (inc the Bible) and thus is demanding of further investigation.
The God of the Bible on the other hand is simply a work of fiction and that is proven every day with the horrors we see perpetrated around the world and the fact that when multiple Christians pray together in any number, as fervently as they can, their wishes and desires are NOT met. Their sick and diseased friends and family members still die every day regardless of their prayers.
What I meant was that God must be more than man/woman so you wouldn’t expect God to have the same make up as us. Thus I wouldn’t expect God to have human DNA.
Ok but the attribute of “mortality” does not equate to being human. Animals have mortality. So does vegetation.
The key aspect is whether or not Jesus was actually a man. To be a man he must have human DNA. Anything else and he simply is not a man. If he was not a man, but rather something else that just appeared as a human form, then the accounts of him are misleading. How could he suffer the things humans suffer from if he were not human?
For example the sexual attraction and drive towards other humans.
Christianity and Catholicism make up whatever they need to support their dogmas.
The Bible tells us about the Stone, the Elixir Of Life, the Tree Of Life, Manna etc etc. There are 100s of other texts and treatises which describe it and explain what benefits it bestows on humans. The Bible confirms some of those benefits.
It’s patently obvious to me personally that Jesus had the Stone and used it to heal others and raise the dead. It would also have prevented him from dying on the cross and would have allowed his disciples to quickly revive him.
The Bible tells us that Jesus had given the secret to his disciples and that he taught others only in parables and allegorical stories.
What is notable with all of this is that Jesus didn’t freely give the Stone to all. He kept it for himself and his disciples rather than release it to all. Not very friendly imho.
Hi
The Philosophers Stone is not proven, it is just a belief system the same as Jesus.
Yes science can be used and twisted to suite anyone’s needs and is but not discussing it isn’t a solution. How do we discuss the fact that jesus’s DNA might be found without discussing science? Humans are arrogant; without a doubt which is even more reason to discuss it. People can come up to their own conclusions. Isn’t that what we do with all of life. We take what works for us and leave the rest?
We have so much to learn. That is the beauty of science.
Again/ How do we learn without discussing it?
