Beer traps for slugs?

This one’s had one too many!
Yuk that’s horrible Twiz
Yes, yuk I hate slugs.
Well, my peas are growing Tiny shoots are showing, this a first time crop for me.
Still disappointed with my runner beans only seven growing and still not halfway up a cane, tho’ some are in flower We have the same amount of French beans and they are flowering too and about a foot tall!
But I still love gardening
I’m very jealous of you gooseberries Barry
I have a raspberry ripening on my yellow raspberries, it is red :surprised: … I’m going back to the garden centre soon and will have a word, see if any one else has had the same problem. The label on it is too far down and would have to be cut off, so I cannot see it being done for a joke.
Bit like buying a puppy and it not being the breed you thought it was, I like the plant, I’m not exchanging it
enjoy your one raspberry Janela whatever variety it is .
You lucky woman, my blessed things have got a virus so I doubt I will be eating any raspberries red or yellow
Growing plants is worse than raising children
…if it’s not slugs, snails or blackfly, it is a virus, birds, cabbage white, weevil or some other creepy thing  makes me wonder why I don’t stick to the farmers maket …
Hello I had beautiful potted plants, yellow snapdragons, fuscia & pink dianthus, celosias, etc & the intense heat we’d had for a couple of weeks killed everything
I watered them quite a bit but nothing saved them.
Stores pretty much quit selling annuals shortly after the season begins so I’m out of luck now.
Oh, sorry to hear you’ve lost your plants - I’m sure you could find a garden shop with some flowers. Probably some geraniums - they’ll take the heat
Oh yeah, that one died too
Oh well
Hi Meg, raspberries are prone to virus so I buy fresh stock about every 8 years or so and plant them in different parts of the garden - it seems to do the trick.
My summer raspberries are getting pretty tired as well with poor cropping, small fruits and yellowing foliage, so I’m going to do away with the summer varieties altogether and plant another autumn fruiting variety such as “Autumn Bliss” or “Joan J”, which are much easier to care for, crop heavily and have a lot fewer cultivation problems…
Hi Alan I only planted these a couple of months ago, I removed the sickly ones and the remaining three are doing well now and I even had some fruit (Glen Lyon).
Overall the fruit and veg plot is doing really well this year. For example for lunch today we are having a salad of Little Gem lettuce, cherry tomatoes, beetroot, grated carrot, radishes, spring onions, green pepper and new spuds, followed by stewed gooseberries for sweet, so the only thing not out of the garden will be the hard boiled eggs…but I haven’t learnt how to cultivate those yet…
Good for you Barry. You must now start to brew your own wine and beer. I did that for many years while the family were still at home. Once they left I had the spare cash to buy my booze !
Well done Barry I had my first tomato today (outdoors tomatoes). It was huge and delicious.
Sadly no more are ready yet.
How lovely Meg
We’ve had a few small ones but the beef toms are green and still growing.
Because of my spell in hospital, we are quite behind in our little veg border. I’ve still got a tray of peas to go in
Never mind, we are still enjoying it
The first one is always the best Meg. We have plenty of cherry tomatoes now turning but my maincrop “Crystal” don’t seem anywhere near to ripening yet.
Although it sounds as though I may be bragging about my garden, but don’t worry, because I must also admit that not everything has been a resounding success. I have had many failures as well this year, with such as the french beans, strawberries, summer raspberries and, potentially, my Victoria plums (time will tell but not looking promising at the mo… ), but all in all not the unmitigated disaster that was 2012 thankfully…
My Dad used to make his own wine Alan for many years, and some of it I am told was really very good, but I’m not much of a drinker so for me to make it would probably just be a waste of thoroughly good water…
You could make it and then give it to your friends Barry…wink, wink.
In the past few days my ‘cut & come again’ lettuce has blown and gone to seed but we had some good pickings, so I’m not too disappointed. I have a cucumber ready to pick and a few more on the plant waiting to fill out.
A couple of tomatoes are ripening each day so all in all we’ve had some fun with our little veg patch this year.
I meant to ask about apples last month. Our ‘June drop’ was July this year - a whole month late, it looks like we are having an August drop too now. Anyone else noticed this?
