The despicable creature, Ann Widdecombe, is dead

I understand this view and the good intention it is based on. I am just not sure that it is practical in all cases.

They seem very quick to point out that the crime was not racially or politically motivated and that the perp was white
Even when they released the first suspect and had to start all over again.

Yorkshire is more than a bit away from where she lived. How did they manage to arrest someone from that distance away. I would have thought the person would probably be local certainly nearer than Yorkshire. :person_shrugging::person_shrugging:

CCTV along with face recognition software. A few weeks ago I was walking along Victoria St in London and there was a van sat on the pavement, a few police standing near the van and a dozen more police round the corner. The had cameras mounted on it and “Facial Recognition” written on the side. I found it quite disturbing in a big brother way.

I thought you recognised everybody by facial recognition
Now if they were to recognise Mrs Fox by the tattoo on her buttocks
That would be an invasion of privacy

:astonished:
Isn’t there something about babies seeing their mothers faces and that teaches us to see faces in the clouds etc? It’s a built in feature of most animals.

Sounds like “facial” recognition’s a thing of the past.

Awww DRAT.
That means. No TAX On Hoodies & Facemasks’ In Public. !!!
“Poor Show”.

I hope there will soon be a ding dong on this news story. I appreciate it was a headliner but it seems there is a news blackout in the UK where we have one or two headliners endlessly and pointlessly chewed over while things happen in the world that we have no inkling of. It’s a type of censorship. I guess it saves news agencies money to not bother about everything else that happens in the country and on the planet.

Have you noticed how, these days there are distractions everywhere you look. Smartphones with games, films and Music. Reality TV, gambling websites
People are getting really wrapped up in what happens on their smartphone and aren’t actually in the space they seem to be occupying

SNIP.
A 28-year-old white British man from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was originally arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday but has now been re-arrested “on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism”, CTPSE said.

“Suspicion”.
24 Hrs in Custody. 24Hrs of “No Comment”.
And. Released.!! And Re-Arrested.
The CPS Is keeping a keen eye on this one. No room for Error.

What is overlooked is that she, like myself, grew up at a time when actual freedom of speech was allowed. Back then comments about things like skin colour- name calling etc were considered normal . Things have change in the last 10-25 years, now everyone is scared to say /write or post anything as it could mean a prison sentence.
Those that are born say in the last 20+years know no difference not have anything to compare with so accept how things are now as normal. Politicians today have no backbone to stand out from the crowd. Ann W. with others at least stood out no matter if liked or not. Back then we had Enoch Powell -Maggie Thatcher etc who had strong views and not afraid to speak out. Because of this they had enemies but also respect . Now with the internet inciting hatred by some lead others to being brainwashet to the extent to commit murderw

Gosh, really? So if I say something about the colour of your skin then there is every chance I will be sent off to jail? What legislation was passed to enable this sentencing?
(Your post reminds me of a bloke I met who was certain that you can’t ask for a black coffee any more. Its illegal, innit, 'coz you use the word black. You need to ask for coffee without milk. World’s gone made, innit? He was not the sharpest pencil in the case.)

Don’t you think Powell and Thatcher with their strong views weren’t inciting hatred then?

Much of Ann Widdecombe’s criticism came from her strong religious beliefs. We had a brilliant young politician up here in Scotland who would probably now be our first minister but she gave up politics because her religion got in the way.

I know that it’s directed at Realspeed, not me
but he does have a point. I took it to be a flat factual observation of how life has changed, or more accurately people’s perceptions have certainly changed.

I would have thought that anyone expressing a strong view such as Maggie or Powell did risk inciting hatred.
Doesn’t Trump do the very same thing then?

I know i had a moan about the media yesterday - mainly about the way they handled the ‘breaking news’ of Anne Widdicombe’s death, but i have to praise various online news networks, for keeping us informed of other news, both here in the UK, and abroad.

The murder of Anne Widdicombe will continue to dominate for some time, and it my opinion rightly so, but we still have a huge choice of stories and events happening around the world we can read about, if we want to.
