Suitable Swim Dresses

For a lane swimming chlorinated pool, they aren’t very practical.
Most of my summer swimming is done at the beach so sitting around with others in the sand exposed in a regular swim suite isn’t very comfortable without some type of coverup. Then after a long swim I have a long walk back along the beach. Sometimes the beach is packed with people whom I have to walk past so for me the skirt type of cover up swimwear is ideal.

Ditto.

I go to the pool every week & swim half a mile (32 lengths)

This is my actual swim suit - I have three all similar. I think they do a decent job of covering everything I wish to be covered.

Why be embarrassed about how you look. Nobody sees it once you’re in the water.

The ones Bratti posted are too pretty to get wet!!

:-p:-p

There’s always this swimsuit for £60. The only thing is, you mustn’t get it wet. :017:

For the indoor pool I wear Speedo’s like these. I also have a few of them. With the wide open legs I get a bit uncomfortable if I’m out of the water in them. Half my butt cheeks are hanging out:blush:and while my butt cheeks aren’t ugly or anything, it’s a bit too revealing for me to walk down the beach. When I was younger I had no problems. My figure hasn’t changed much since then but my mentality sure has

Even if it didn’t leak dye, this wouldn’t be worn by me to go swimming.

For your lake/outdoor swimming I can quite see why you would buy these, Bratti. They’re very pretty.
Swimming in a pool over here is quite restrictive in space you’re allowed, sometimes lane swimming, not a bit the same.
Horses for courses and all that!

The pool I swim at is quite restrictive also and these wouldn’t be the least bit appropriate. In fact I’d most likely either be escorted OUT or gawked at with ‘wth’ looks but since it ‘‘tis the season for swimming in the wild in wide open spaces, I was tickled pink to find these swimming skirts. Now I don’t have to feel gawked at walking down the beach from my swim. My swims are quite lengthy so it’s a bit of a trek back. At least I can do it in style.:-p

Horses for coarses of courses.

I’ve been looking for a forties style swimsuit for ages.

You know the type…the legs go a little way down the thigh, doing away with the need for ‘bikini line’ worries, iyswim, and the bodice is reasonably well upholstered!

Haven’t been able to find one. :frowning:

lmao, now i can’t get the image of our swimmy in a swimdress hahahaha, so funny

Try www.unique-vintage.com they do retro/40s styles in all sizes.
Some of their suits are ghastly, but the halter- neck is very 40s and the leg shape is not high…

Ooh! Thanks! I’ll look into those!
It all depends on the ‘corsetry’. I need a lot of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Finally a topic I know a little about.

The first step in shopping for swimwear is to drink a glass of wine.

Then consider:

Swimdresses:

The swimming dresses are great for women on the beaches down here who want to be on the beach - walk, sunbathe, wade into the water. They look great but they are indeed impractical for swimming, surfing, or other really active water activities.

If you like the idea of a swimdress, but want a more practical suit, this style is an option:

Boy shorts:

Pyxell mentioned wanting a longer leg on a suit. My daughter and I, along with the other women who surf and paddle board, seem to prefer this style when not sunbathing (weird tan lines). Great coverage and no constant tugging. If you prefer a one piece, try searching “boy short one piece” as you search term. If you want to adjust the sides, look for ones that have side ties. Try a pair of boy short bottoms with your favorite top:

Retro:

There are many forties styles out there right now that have higher waists. These look adorable on the younger women and teens. Search “retro swimwear” or “vintage swimwear”

Springsuits:

These are made of thin neoprene, but are lighter and more flexible than wetsuits. Plenty of coverage with a little extra warmth. They come in sleeveless and long sleeve styles. I love mine:

Performance swimwear:

There are sportier styles that provide good coverage and support. Athleta carries a whole line of options. Search “athletic” or “performance” swimwear.

Flattering suits for older women: (though a few of these wholly impractical and downright odd):

Those ARE nice!!!
Thanks Ruthio!
Lovely !

Surfernom!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I was about to order that cute green one when I realized that the skirt would be up in my face in no time which would annoy me needlessly. It’s nice beachwear but not swim appropriate.

Ok you ladies were right.
Booo! It’s impractical but luckily we have plenty of selection right here. You ladies totally rock.
This is awesome.

Gotta get ready for a jazz concert.
I will search through these and comment on them later.

Yayyy.
Thank you again

I never realised that a swimsuit could be such a palava.

Bring back the…

…then you might have an idea!

.

Pyxell - I must show that to the Craft Club meeting here this evening. We have several expert knitters. Just let us know if you are hankering after one

I regret I have no need of a man’s bathing suit!
