Solar and wind energy can be stored for up to 18 yrs!

Italian engineers are developing a way to store wind and solar power for
use when the the sun and wind arent working !!
They plan to use the sun and wind when it is available to compress CO2
till it becomes liquified, this is the charging cycle of the battery!
When they need to use the energy to feed the grid then they release the
pressure to drive turbines to generate power in the normal way ?
The released CO2 gas is not wasted, it is stored in a seperate container
ready to be recompressed for the next cycle, so not only energy storage
but carbon sequestration as well ??
The ltalians are presently building a prototype plant in sardinia and eventually
intend to export complete turnkey plants around the world eventually ??
This system will solve the problems of wind farms and solar arrays have with
lack of wind and day and night !!
I have had experience of the pwer of decompressing CO2 when a small
Liquid CO2; container malfunctioned and blew two bursting discs and blew
off for about four hours before we could rectify yhings !!
Rocket engines had nothing on the noise !!
Donkeyman! :thinking::thinking::thinking:

well if they get any leeks they can plug them up with spaghetti. :rofl:

@realspeed , sounds like a menu RS, Leeks and spaghetti ??

The idea is appealing I have trouble contemplating just how large the storage area would need to be for the released CO2.

Surely that would need to be enormous ? No ?

I imagine it could be sited somewhere remote but even so ?

Wind turbines? Now that’s a windup if ever I saw one :grin::clap:

This article may be related to the OP although I’m not sure. The headlines look similar.

Wind turbines are known to kill lots of birds but I guess we don’t really care about them

Hi Chelsea, perhaps the following will help put things in perspective?

My husband has his own wind storage facility.
And when it blows,it blows.

It DOES put things in perspective. After doing research for the global warning thread and uncovering the fact that mankind has killed off 83% of the worlds animal population, I’m extra skeptics of so- called energy advances. While driving to visit my parents, I’d see wind turbines everywhere and was quite fond of them until I realized that they kill so many birds. Viewing that article made me realize that wind turbines are off-setting other methods that kill off more of our bird species. It’s comforting knowing that others are equally concerned for their safety. Painting these turbines black and adding a recognizable sound seems to be a plausible solution to our declining bird population in regards to usable energy sources.

Thank you for that. :+1::blush:
It’s much appreciated from this heartfelt zoophilist
