20% because your parents set you a good example.
Mum and Dad were married for 63 years before they passed away together in the same year.
10% Because it was the right thing to do in those days.
Thank you for your interesting reply. Your last suggestion I think was very much the case back in the day, especially when it was difficult for women to buy their own homes.

I have watched at close quarters lately guys who trod the single path, early on, no probs, but in later life, soul searching can cause problems, they decided not to get involved with the cut and thrust of a relationship, no gain without pain

You were classed as a certain kind of lady here if you drank pints on yer own.
I think these days there are lots of career women who earn more than a bloke and are reluctant to give that up to settle down and have kids, hence the low birthrate among successful ladies.
There was a time when ladies in the poorer areas had lots of kids to all different fathers in order to obtain a council house and lots of benefits. I delivered the post to many of them. I donāt know if the benefits are still as attractive these days.
Single for the past 19 years. 51 now and not sure I could ever get used to being married again and living with someone.

Who happened to be shopping in Woolworths.
Reception. Dine & Dash Cafe next door. A Cuppa & a Sausage Sandwich. Marriage lasted 18yrs.
