Silent Walking

It’s getting easier for people to be controlled,I think.

I had a Sony Walkman back in '82 but soon kicked the habit.

Yep, give them some music to listen to or a film on netflix and it stops them thinking about anything else. Bloody Zombies…
When was it that we had to have music in our heads whenever we go out walking or sitting on public transport, or even walking down the street and jogging for God’s sake…?
I like watching films or listening to music, but I reserve it for when I’m sat down comfy and warm at home with a glass of red in my hand…

Cheers Mr Smith…

I live in the countryside and walk my dogs every morning in a forest nearby . There is never anyone else there and I walk in complete silence. I never even have to speak to the dogs as we have such a good routine .
I love it , I can think of solutions for any problems I may have and have most of my best ideas then . I get very upset if I can’t go

Hi Abbey, roughly where do you live in Scotland? I am a Scotsman and we lived near Kirriemuir, actually on a hill farm. With my dog.

Long while ago…

I live in Portpatrick in south west Scotland . A lovely part of the world . Have to do without some things here . Not much choice of restaurants and takeaways are poor . Shops are poor or non existent .Can be busy in the summer and really quiet in the winter . However my forest walks and beach walks more than make up for that . I especially love it in the winter .

Not busy here - our school was six miles away ! Our house was a mile and a half from the main off our road.

Was she a rescue?

Yes, the Spaniel. My previous, also a rescue, was a collie.

They weren’t as many cars on the roads in those days then?

Thanks Chelsea, but that was 34 years ago, this was me at the finish of my last ever competitive half marathon in 2013…

And although I had to slow down, I still keep jogging and climbing things. This was taken earlier this year at 74, a little slower and slightly heavier…

That was taken in 1990 Mr Smith, although there were a lot less cars, I think they closed the road for the event.
In 1990 there were approximately 2 million registered cars…
And today…
41.2 million licensed vehicles… :open_mouth:

At the end of December 2023, compared to December 2022, in the UK there were: 41.2 million licensed vehicles, an increase of 1% (VEH0101a) 1,015,000 licensed zero emission vehicles, an increase of 47% (VEH1103a), including 931,000 zero emission cars, an increase of 48%

Afternoon Mr Foxy! I appreciate your amazing running. Another fellow runner is my cousin’s husband. He has been all over including the South Arctic and has completed over 100 marathons.

I have always walked without headphones or anything else, I love the peace n quiet (mostly) of the hikes that the dogs and I did, just the occasional sound of something moving in the forest or the waves breaking on the beach. You also need to be aware of what’s around you. The times I’ve seen folk almost being hit by a bike or something simply because they didn’t hear it.
