Our little boy came up to his mama in the kitchen this evening
While she was fixing supper
And he handed her a piece of paper he’d been writin’ on
And after wipin’ her hands on her apron she read it and this is what it said
For mowing the yard 5 dollars
For making my own bed this week 1 dollar
For going to the store 50 cents
For playing with my little brother while you went shopping 25 cents
For taking out the trash 1 dollar
For getting a good report card 5 dollars
And for raking the yard 2 dollars
Total amount owed 14 dollars and 75 cents
Well as mama looked at him standing there expectantly
And I could see the memories flashing through her mind
And so she picked up the pen and turning the paper over
This is what she wrote and I read it to him
For the nine months she carried you growing inside her, no charge
For the nights we sat up with you, doctoring you, praying for you, no charge
For the time and the tears that you’ve caused through the years there’s no charge
When you added all up the full cost of our love is no charge
For the nights filled with dread and the worries ahead, no charge
For advice and for knowledge and the cost of your college, no charge
For the toys food and clothes and for wiping your nose there’s no charge
When you added all up the full cost of our love is no charge
Well when I finished readin’ he had big tears in his eyes
And he looked up at his mother and he said mama I sure do love you
Then he took the pen and in great big letter he wrote Paid In Full
When you added all up the full cost of our love is no charge
There are several of Black pudding export / import companies which my neighbor researched for me but looks like the women owners are married in other words owned by a married couple .
One of many
– Black Pudding Imports Ltd.
What Utopia it would be to hit it off with a woman who owns such a business , we would eat black pudding every night from different parts of the world and watch reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond but sadly this magic is not going to happen .
I have on my list 2 types I have not tried recommended in this forum but might just order them as can not find them locally .
A man can dream –
Me " Honey what types of black pudding will you be importing this week ? "
Her " Portuguese and the other type you were told about online PLUS let’s set up a 125 gallon tank in the dining room so we can look at fish , eat black pudding and watch tv all night "

It’s called ‘short attention span’ Kate, a result of flicking through posts on X, Tik Tok and other social media sites. And I’ll bet even most people on here don’t read the long posts…
Frankly NO. Parents choose to sporn. Its their responsibility to ensure. Their choice of lifestyle, married or otherwise is paramount.
A father may give away a daughter. But he doesn’t reject her, or those she may have sporned.
Self Reliance. Encouraged, prepared and imbedded across generations
I thought the opening post was reflecting a wider issue than just the care or financial help to parents. It seemed to be about a current UK issue where the triple lock on the state pension annual increases has to be paid for by today’s tax payer - and if a retired person is just getting the state pension then they are not paying any tax. So its the younger generation who is funding the state pension.
On top of that, with an aging population, the 70+ year olds take a significant chunk of the health service budget, the social care budget and state help for care homes. A large amount of that will be funded from tax payments from the younger generations still in work.
My own thoughts on this are that there is a significant tax contribution from the retired generation as many have private pensions that mean this “salary” is taxed. Plus other tax contributions - VAT for example. However it does seem that not enough people have been investing in their own private pension (or got into company pension schemes). This group might be in two halves - the ones who never had the opportunity to arrange a private pension and the ones who did have the chance but preferred to simply spend their earnings.
The top and bottom of all this is because all of our industries have been sold off and moved to other countries.
My parents both had substantial pensions from their long service at major manufacturing companies. They could have survived quite happily just from those pensions alone, and I’m sure that if they were still alive would have been heavily taxed.
Also, because of the demise of all those companies most of the workers in the Doncaster district either work for the NHS the council or some other service industry, who are basically paid by the government.
The miners might have been a thorn in the side for the government, but they produced lots of income from coal exports and died young, so not putting pressure on an overstretched NHS. The mining industry was also supported by hundreds of other businesses with employees who also paid their share of tax, and in return received a good works pension…If they lived long enough!.
These mining towns and villages contain many people who now claim benefits and pay no tax.
Between the green revolution and the open door policy, it will turn the UK into a third world country and unable to look after it’s own residents who gave so much during the two world wars, and later, in industry.
