Thank you d00d, all credit to my son, and my rather average Motorola phone! ![]()
I have to say the same for jellied eels - don’t knock it till you tried it was my mistake. My advice is - if you see any in the shop - keep walking!
Yes, that’s something else I’ve been tempted to try in the past out of bravado, not anymore. The same goes for snails!
I love hash browns. I used to buy frozen packets of them, great on the barbie.
Sydney rock oysters are the best! Love 'em too.
Escargot are delicious. I had these in France when we backpacked across Europe back in the 80s. Jellied eels are the most revolting thing that is passed off as food but even the rats don’t want it.
If you eat whelks and cockles I can’t see why escargot would be any different. The Thais have the best though.
I’m not sure I would eat snails now. But it’s best not to think too deeply about what you are eating or you will end up eating a very restricted diet. I started thinking about honey too deeply today and quickly shoved that thought out of my mind.
I had grilled alligator when we were in Georgia - excellent it was !!
I had kangaroo steak once many years ago, it was quite rich and filling if I remember correctly.
Why is that Annie?
I love it in my favourite herbal tea with cloves!
Ah!
I’ve just had a quick edit, it’s a bee regurgitation issue right?
You can buy kangaroo steak in the supermarket but it costs nearly as much as beef, it is very lean and easy to overcook.
I have tried Moose (actually it was in Sweden and might have been called Elk) water buffalo, camel, goat, croc and emu at various times but to be honest they are no better or worse than other meats they just taste very slightly different but not outstandingly different.
Looks tasty!
Of course over here it’s considered an exotic meat, can’t see myself stumbling over any in Asda! ![]()
Well I started to think how bees make it with their mouth and all…
MacDonalds is the pits, having deteriorated so much over the last decade, Hungry Jacks (Burger Kings) are no better, both these places depend wholly on the staff to deliver edible food. If the staff do not care, then the whole experience is a disaster, and our money is wasted on disgusting fare.
I have written to head office several times, they do not care. So I finally gave up patronising these businesses.
Then there are the other eateries, here is Perth at least, I find them incredibly overpriced for what is served up.
I bought curried chicken a few days ago, 3/4 of the dish was boiled rice, with 6 small cubes of diced chicken, curried with carrots and onions.
Tasty yes, value for money at $16 a small serve? No where near it. With a drink, $22.
This is why I rarely eat out.
I used to have a place I bought Biryani Rice, tasty and priced right. New owners took over and immediately raised the price 40%. I told them your greed will see me not return. I noticed 4 months later, the place was closed down.
I’d be reluctant to tar all of the staff with the same brush Bret. They are young, finding their feet and l"d suggest going through the motions as far as the fast food process is concerned. Probably not a role that’s going to inspire and get the creative juices flowing?
Whether the fare at Maccas is disgusting or not I don’t really think it’d make very much difference who actually serves it, even Mary Berry would struggle with that one! ![]()
Can anyone explain the allure of Chick-fil-A? I noticed one, recently opened, has never ending queues outside the door, with security guards letting in a few at a time.
Chick-fil-A, Never heard of it. Google says, “3,000 Restaurants across the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada”
There’s a place recently opened in W. London, Popeyes, another I’ve never heard of. Google says:
3,705 restaurants, located in Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 30 countries worldwide.
I wouldn’t criticise them in such a sweeping manner, they can vary from excellent to bloody awful. Many years ago I even wrote a glowing review for the small Maccas at The Oaks because of the way they handled a bus load of seniors suddenly descending on them. Other bigger places on main roads have definitely fallen apart under such pressure.
A couple of years ago I bought a meal in the Cowra KFC which I thought was really nice but sometime later I tried to repeat the experience by ordering the same meal at Sydney Town Hall KFC and ended up throwing the greasy mess away.
These fast food places only employ young people because they cost less to employ and employment with them is a feather in the cap for a young person’s CV when they leave school and enter the “real” workforce.
To be honest I can’t remember the last time I went to a Maccas, Hungry Jacks, Dominos or KFC so I am not up to date with the local ones at all.
I hardly ever frequent these fast food places, but sometimes I suddenly feel like a nice burger and chips meal, in other words an urge for junk food
, so I ask my son to bring home a BK or Maccas takeaway when he says he’ll be home for dinner.
Apparently, it’s a nightmare for young people here working in fast food places, severely underpaid, just like our riders (we don’t have a “minimum wage” law) , almost reduced to slavery, but still manage to put on a smile and treat clients politely with respect, according to what I’ve seen personally and heard, too.
No doubt you soon will, this one (London suburb) is amazingly successful.
