Ah! I used to love luncheon meat when I was a child. Especially when sliced thick, dipped in batter and fried - Spam fritters, yum!

I still make Spam fritters with home made chips and peas sometimes. Coming over for supper?

That takes me back. I remember my Mum sending me and brother up the corner shop for three quarters of Spam for tea. :grinning:

Ooh, yes please! What time?

About 7, what shall we have for pud?

I’ll make that if you like. It’s got to be a good ole nursery pud, so what about spotted dick and custard?

With apologies for derailing this thread :icon_redface:. Back to topic now…

I like the idea…as long as they are providing nutritious alternatives whats not to like. I’m all for it.

Yes, so many good meat alternatives, I can’t see a problem with it either

I’m sure it could be cheaper and just as nutritious

Plus the children might like it, they are very into the environment and green alternatives and it would encourage them to try new things and eating differently

I think it’s a great idea. These days there are so many good alternatives, so much info and recipes out there for nutritious and tasty veggie meals. When I first became a vegetarian back in the 80s, there was very little commercially available, apart from packs of veggie sausage mix or veggie burger mix. That was about it! Everything was home made from scratch.

Today it’s so much easier, and it’s a great opportunity to teach children about healthy food choices and caring for the planet. You don’t need meat to be healthy.

I use that stuff for bait when fishing.

I know what a tongue sandwich is

I think it’s time teachers stopped forcing their ideas onto impressionable young children. Many years ago my 2 nieces went home from school in floods of tears after a teacher at school told them that eating meat was cruel and telling them all about animal suffering etc.

They are both over sensitive kids and cry at the drop of a hat. They both refused to eat meat and cried so much that they eventually persuaded their parents to stop eating meat too. Their Mum was sick of them ruining every mealtime!

It’s up to parents to decide what to put in their kids lunch boxes not the teachers. My kid used to like salami sticks, ham sandwiches and little cold chipolatas.
