Roberts poems (part 1)

One mind thinks
RJ
One pen moves
RJ
One key taps
RJ
Applause
hands clap

It soon comes around that time of year
Its time for the flu jab there nothing to fear
Says the local nurse Come closer then my dear
With sleeve rolled up, thro glasses she peers

You may feel a prick when the needle goes in
It will probably hurt, cos you’re painfully thin
Try not to cry out and don’t make a din
I you let out a swear word, put coin in the tin

I hide behind desk and sway from side to side
My hopes of escape dim, my hips are too wide
I trip on the carpet and cross the floor I slide
“Come out says nurse its useless to hide”

I protest I don’t feel I need a jab today
But she she’s bigger than me so I cant get away
I have to jab you or I wont get my pay
Besides I haven’t done this task before today

Now just a minute you cant practise on me
Those glasses are so thick, I doubt you can see
Now don’t be a wimp I can show some mercy
When this is over you’ll say silly old Bertie

If I can help someone along their way
This wont have been a wasted day
To inspire and encourage every day everyone
The folks I meet , then my works been done.

Stop and say hi to people you pass by
The big issue seller, be brave, go on try
That person you spoke to in Tesco’s queue
Has spoken to no one that day but you

I started this posting, with part tongue in cheek
But will end it plainly, so I wont seem a geek
Treat others as you like to be treated your self
It really works wonders and is good for your health

Just when things seem to be
Falling into place
The nameless terror beckons me
breathing in my face
It has no name ,
But pure deepest fear
From whence it came
It is not welcome here

A new day a clean sheet to write my name upon
A fresh start and a new beginning
To move this life along.

A new dawn, a new era with so much promise in store
A new age and endless horizons
Who could ask for more?

What brings happiness to you and me
For it can’t be plucked out of the air
It’s roots lay in the way we see
The reflection in the mirror there

First you must wholly love yourself
Accept the way you were made to be
Enjoy the things that prolong good health
Then your character will be your destiny

Happiness grabs you and fills you with hope
When you are thinking about other things
Life overflows and protects like a moat
And in your spirit freedom rings

I had a terrible ache in my jaw
It went on for the best part of a week
I had never had pain like this before
So medical help I did seek

The dentist said you silly man
Where did you get these dentures from
I said I keep them on the stand
He said have you had them in very long

I said every day of course, for years
I keep them in a glass of water
But they’ve never before caused me tears
Dear boy let me tell you what you oughta

He said your wearing your wife’s false teeth
How on earth did that ever take place
I said we keep both sets, while we sleep
Next to other in the same glass, save waste

Of water, so there , its easily done
Now the pain has gone away
But it caused a lot of fun
Its not the silliest thing I’ve ever done
But it’s the silliest yet today

Doctor doctor wont you look at me
I’ve got this nasty rash you see
Spots on my chest and on my tum
Swollen fingers and swollen thumbs

My dear chap, you’ve got it pretty bad
Quite the spottiest person this surgery’s had
Im going to be frank and confide in you
Then I’ll tell you what I’m going to do.

I don’t want to worry you, or cause a scene
You have the worst case of whatever it is I’ve ever seen
Take these pills ,just 2 , three times a day
With a bit of luck your spots will go away

Ah lovely Robert - you help me ‘along my way’ …

In am waiting for inspiration…

Robert - could you think about ‘Pepe’ a black bird that comes around each year to give us a few of his tunes, I love him and look forward to his visits, he doesn’t know that of course - or does he…
Last year his favourite tree, right opposite my window, where he would perch right at the top, was - chopped in half ! More like a hedge now…So, I cant see my Pepe now, this makes me :frowning: …but - I can hear him still …
So Robert - have I inspired you …?

Brilliant Robert, I like that one

Well, if we can put in requests

Here’s mine! I am a water lover Robert (star sign Virgo, must be absolute proof  ) one of my favourite sights is the sunlight dancing on the surface of water (whether that be the sea or a stream, it matters not). I have a couple of poems in frames - one about that sight ^^^ would join them!

I’m on it now,…

Request accepted

Excellent

for PAt

PEPE.

Pepe is a Dandy and sings
Each morn for me
I know he’s there behind the stump
The remains of his favourite tree

He trills and whistles gaily
In celebration of his blissful life
I think sometimes that maybe
He prefers me to his plain wife

I’ll guess he’ll never know
What he means to me
I hope he’ll never go
But find a nearby tree.

Thank you so much Robert,
You’ve managed to tug at me heartstrings …
Love the poem

Language is a precious thing
Conveying our innermost thought
Putting meaning, then passing it on
Through all that we’ve been taught.

We’re all of us gifted, in our own way
And thankful for skills we hold dear;
But for all our talents how many can bring
A descriptively word-induced tear?

A memory flickers like a picture show
When prompted by words in rhyme
Long-past events come back to life
Like a bridge connecting time.

So thank you poets, past and present
For your gift of words and vision
To evoke emotion by the stroke of a pen
Is a rare but wonderful mission.

That’s my offering and a poetic thank you to Robert for his writings.

Thank you for the lovely poem & your good wishes.

I am away until Monday on a retreat to rest & recharge.
