When our last cat, Poppy, was very ill at the age of 21 - dying actually - we just assumed that he would have to be taken to the vet, which is what we did. Admittedly, he was lying still at the bottom of the cage, but I’m sure in a great deal of pain. Had we realised, and assuming that the vet would come out straight away, I’m sure we’d have paid a similar amount.
I have never been so upset as at that moment.
I totally understand how you felt, when I lost my last two Old English Sheepdogs within ten months of each other it brought me to my knees. I was devastated.
Sounds like you’ve done a bit of good detective work there … and Dunc having a word sounds less confrontational and probably offers a better chance at resolving it.

I have never heard of an appointment reserve fee but would agree with others who say that this is illegal if you were not told at the time of booking. Not sure how you would legally challenge such a small amount. Warn others with a google review or trustpilot if they are there. I guess you need to ask for their terms of trade to see the smallprint
