People you admired who turned out to be bad

If they didn’t join or re-join the thread they wouldn’t know you’ve arrived,
Some people make a thread to introduce themselves. :grinning:

The response is largely dictated by the GMT

Or in some cases the PMT

Good morning Cragzee and welcome to OFC!
You’ll probably end up getting ‘merged’ in due course as far as hellos and welcomes are concerned. Don’t worry, it’s not as bad as it sounds :+1:

Do hang around and enjoy the forum! :slightly_smiling_face:

I see you are a Dylan fan?
What do you rate as his best album?
I think Highway61 Revisited myself. :grinning:

Hi @Cragzee, and welcome!

The Penguin

I hadn’t heard this about Peel. In the days Peel was around it was considered the norm for men to chat up girls in their teens. Sam Fox was posing in the Sun when she had just turned 16. 14 was considered fair play and one of Bill Wyman was in the news when he revealed a relationship with a girl he had met when she was just 13. I can’t remember the famous DJ (not Peel) one of my friends had an incident with in a car in the early 80s. She was only 15, he thought it was ok. She told him off but he was nasty about it. I remember going home from school in the early 80s and men in cars would beep at you, clearly an adolescent girl in a school uniform. Thankfully times have changed.

I would say probably Elvis. I grew up on repeats of Elvis movies and he was such a big star in the 70s. But I was shocked when I’ve read about his life, the way Priscilla was treated. On the other hand he was a victim of his success and his voice still gets people through difficult times. I remember reading an expose series in the daily mail after he died. I was so shocked at the time.

These days it seems that everyone in the public eye has something going on.

Sorry Cragzee, been on holiday and just catching up with posts. While away I have to rely on posting on my smartphone, very fiddly, all my best work is done on this laptop…
Welcome to the forum, and I look forward to reading you…

I saw a film the other day on BBC iPlayer called Priscilla and written by Priscilla that showed Elvis to be obsessive, upright, Christian, lacking in sex drive, only interested in a virgin at the legal aged, after marriage. Priscilla left him through boredom. They remained friends for the rest of his life, and he was generous with the divorce settlement.

Later in his life Elvis got into alcohol and drugs but everyone around him including his housekeeper , gardener said he was the nicest person going .

Its a sad fact, some good folks have a tipple, its not a marker for how nice or nasty they are.

Agreed one of his best, but my personal favorite is Time Out of Mind (1997).
His major comeback and triple grammy award winner - one for best male vocal !
I’m also really into his last album Rough and Rowdy Ways (2020)
He’s more jazz and blues these days paying homage to his musical influences.

Elvis was more for the girls wasn’t he?I was a Buddy Holly man.Sadly died young so didn’t get the chance to go wrong in middle age.

The Priscilla film portrayed Elvis as spending all his time with young male groupies but no suggestion that he might be gay.

No not gay but he was very friendly and polite to everybody apparently.
