Factual Administrative Events.
Under The Olympic Flag. As AIN. Neutral Athletes. ie Unsponsored by the Russian State,
Russia was first banned 2019. [4yrs. ie One Olympic] Following detection of State Sponsorship of Performance enhancing Drugs.
With their refusal, to recognising ANY Drug Testing. Ban continued,
These measures to ensure an even playing field within SPORT.
.
With the invasion of Ukraine, together with its Allied Belarus.
Politics of a similar nature, caused Belarus to be ban included.

Didn’t know that Bruce… :+1:

Thanks for that info QES, I knew that the Russians were accused of cheating in the past (drug offences) but not the if’s and but’s … :+1:

One surprise for me was the shooting. The USA hasn’t got a medal even though they are all armed to the teeth :icon_wink:

Our opening ceremony has frequently been voted the best ever. The Queen and James Bond jumping out of a helicopter will never be beaten.

Ps In case there is anybody who still thinks the Queen did the actual jump let me put your mind at rest …

Looking at that table Bruce, I know where I won’t be going on holiday… :anguished:

It is probably downhill from now on but I am sure all sports fans are cheering on little Australia (pop 25mill) as they battle the behemoths of Asia, Europe and Merica in the overall medal table.

Not every American is participating in the Olympics. So using per capital is null and void.
It’s up to each country on how many contenders they want to send. We didn’t even send the best women’s basketball team. They lost to the wnba team. They didn’t even take the best coach.

Don’t get me wrong every, person from every country can beat me.

You’d have to hope so with 300 million people but not yet the most individual golds:

Nor top of the medal table:

Tomorrow is Australia’s last hurrah and downhill from then on - as long as we beat New Zealand, that’s all that matters

Another interesting stat

Team size

United-States - 592
France - 571
Australia - 460
Germany - 428
China - 395
Japan - 393
Spain - 382
Italy - 381
Great-Britain - 327

You’d have to say that China gets the best bang for their buck.

Ok, can compare US to other countries by population. Then compare the to states.

I don’t quite get the point of this list. You’ll have to explain, it has something to do with population but not sure exactly what.

For example California has 120 of something but it alone has a population of 15 million more than Australia’s total population (approx 40 million compared to 25 million) Texas has 41 of it but has a population of 30 million again 5 million more than the total Australian population.

(Just picked out two states the rest of the world knows)

Enjoyed this
Although I watched it on Eurosport/Discovery +
