Drink plenty Bretrick.
Last summer we had 36 degrees inside our holiday cottage as we had no aircom, it was very difficult to sleep at night.

I am currently planning to have our roof insulated next summer and some air com fitted…
Meanwhile enjoying the cold and dry sunny weather, which I like.

Roof insulation and air con will certainly improve your quality of life.

Most people will be of two minds upon hearing that. Considering our dreary weather, they are longing for higher temps , yet 40° and more is a bit too much. We don’t have air con either. All we could do is to at least buy a ventilator anti-cyclically which we did on Black Friday. There’s a fair chance that we may be in for a scorching hot summer again.

Don’t you worry we will get that in a few days time, meanwhile it hasn’t stopped raining since yesterday arvo, my rain gauge is nearly full (it’s 9am when usually take the reading).

You can be sure that all the local creeks are flooding because the ground was already wet, so parts of the suburb will be cut off.

Maybe consider buying an air con. Surely you have earned a comfortable living after all these years.

That’s the problem I have. The minimum at night is about 20° so the house never gets a chance to cool down even with all the doors ad windows open so sleeping is difficult.

My kids keep saying they will buy me air con but I have lived without it for so long I can’t see the point, I find their houses too cold anyway, I always take a jumper when I stay with them.

I avoid aircom as much as possible as it makes me sneeze and catch cold non stop. This is why I am prioritizing roof insulation, but if my bedroom ever gets up to 36 again I will beg for aircom. :sunglasses:

Thanks, Bretrick. The downside of living in a condo is that you are dependent on other owners’ opinions and they have declined such a request.

Give them all a clip under the ear. What is the reason for declining someone’s comfort?

The main reason is, as became clear when another owner applied for it, that they don’t want to be exposed to any kind of construction noise and the noise coming from the air con running. It was also argued that such an undertaking would be an individual solution for one owner only which might be premature and in the way if the community decided to have air con installed for all the other owners at a later stage.

The truth is that for some owners money is tight and they are afraid of additional expenses which they’d also have to pay if a decision was made. For the same reason they rejected plans of other owners to have solar power systems installed on the roofs of our four houses. They are against anything new such as individual charging stations for EVs in our deep-level car park and they object to fibre optic cables being installed.

They also declined my application to replace my predecessor’s country-style garden house since they dislike the style of the new one. And my application to glaze my patio has been put on the back burner. Although I’m almost as old as them, it turns out that a few years of difference in age can make all the difference. Most of them have a completely different mindset. They are the great preventers.

One advantage of owning ones own detached house is being able to make improvements and not worry about noise

I find that really sad and frustrating.

Way too hot! Here in Austin, TX , it’s now my kind of weather: We’ll be in the 20’s (°F) in a few days. Yay!
