Bruce you have 2 dashcams , is that one for each eye? sorry just my sense of humour
Back to this insurance, in some ways, it doesn’t really matter who’s fault it was, all persons policies involved will increase in price regardless of fault.
No thanks, all I had in my cars was “Totty” and incurred no problems or claims. Even back in 1960, my brother enjoyed a ride around the block on my bike.
Errrr Actually they do realspeed.
I purchased a Citroen C5 Aircross and the fitted camera in the windscreen used to relay the speed limit to the dashboard, and it would watch your eyes and slow down the car if you became drowsy. It was equipped with plenty of memory storage that could be downloaded onto a laptop. It would record speed, distance, and even show you a google map with the route that you travelled. Although the car was only two years old when I purchased it, I found many recordings and locations from the previous owner (including video of his house and garage) who had neglected to erase the data.
It even downloaded the stats from the engine performance and fuel consumption.
Far too many gadgets for me and it handled like a tank, so I promptly sold it…
Spent a lot of money on small “Babe” magnets, thinking about it now, the van would have been more practical ![]()
Struth I am beginning to feel really old posting on this forum with all the tech gagets which go into todays driving, for better or worse. Then I am a guy who would never played the radio in a car as I wanted to hear what the engine was doing. Looked long and hard at the Utube clip. Clearly the old boy was at fault. Confused what seem to have fallen off his head and he looked passed out, perhaps not. Then put myself in the not at fault car, sure as hell I would have noticed the other cars speed approaching the junction, hit the brakes as a natural reaction and knocked my speed down and in the event throw the car down his left hand side or made an attempt. Perhaps driving comes with experience and not gadgets. Well guess that will have made me unpopular.
Dashcam being fitted next week . I could have done it but the “boss” said no
its the one I fitted (nextbase 522 GW) on the Nissan. Hard wired this time as the cigar lighter plug is always live andwould drain the battery
I hope no one got injured. That’s a confusing situation. Can you say who had to give way? I neither see traffic signs nor road markings. I’d have expected the white car to wait since that road looks smaller. Why on earth did the white car drive on the same side of the road as your wife?
It looks perhaps like the old boy’s airbag had gone off, and he was not moving. Then I hope nobody was hurt, the clip looks old, perhaps from 2020, Then I asked the question, would a driver have had a better chance or a front passenger in a driverless taxi?
Then perhaps he was pothole watching, the road was littered with them. Never had them in my driving days, so why have we got them now?
Gee, that bike looks like my BSA A10 (except for the fairing )
1960, 650cc Gold Flash Bruce. They did it in a blue colour and 100mph was the norm.
I think that is basically the same bike as an A10. The A7 was a 500cc twin. I also had a B30 and B33 350cc and 500cc singles (one power stroke every lamp post).
They all did over 100mph
Bruce, I seem to remember BSA in my time did the Road Rocket 650 Twin. The Gold Flash 650 twin and the sought after fast 500cc single Gold Star. And the B31 ? 350cc. And the Bantam of course, for the post boys.
I understand it may be helpful to have a dash cam especially if you can be sure that it’ll be accepted by courts. Can you? Our courts weigh up in each individual case whether the interest in establishing the truth outweighs data protection (right to informational self-determination). And, technically, you need to have a camera with a loop function (short storage time, automatic overwriting) as they only store data permanently in the event of an accident. The permanent, unprovoked filming of public road traffic is prohibited.
That’s basically what has made me hesitate to install one.
I could have wrote that Dave… ![]()
I never play a radio or any other sound equipment in my car either and much prefer to listen to the revs before gear changing, and smooth running of the engine.
Looking at the youtube clip, 30 mph seemed to be fast in those conditions, and seeing another car approaching from the left would have had me covering the brake long before I got to the corner.
They have recently reduced all the speed limits to 20 mph in those type of built up areas when anything can be expected, especially with todays quiet engines (EV’s) kids feel safe and tend to run out unexpectedly. You need to be in full concentration mode.
I wonder how the courts will react to dashcams in the future now AI is a thing…
My mate had a BSA Super Rocket 650 twin and my Dad had BSA 250 star in maroon.
I used to sit on it in the shed and pretend I was Giacomo Agostini…
I think the law varies from country to country Dachs.

I don’t believe there are any restrictions in the UK.
So that makes two who keep being suspicious of an engine doing its job? Is that due to bad experience? Somehow it sounds a bit old school to me since modern engines, if properly serviced, run 100k miles without the slightest problems.
Incidentally , in the nineties I kept wondering what those self-service oil points at petrol stations were for? I was used to oil being replaced once a year or after about 15,000 miles during regular service intervals at the garage. And then I learnt two things . My brother’s newly-bought Vauxhall, when it had reached 60k miles on the clock , needed additional oil between regular inspections. That’s what accounted for those oil points . With 120,000 miles driven, I also noticed that it might be better to add some engine oil once between service dates. Says something about engine quality, if you ask me.
Not suspicion Dachs, just a love and understanding of moving parts working together in harmony.
Only a surgeon can be happy with his work when he sees his patient make a full recovery and do something amazing…
So too the mechanic…

Yes, sorry, mine was a B31 and B33 not B30 I think the B30 might have been a side valve version. I’m going by memory here - not so reliable these days.
As I recall the B3x series was the same bottom end, only the pot, head and piston were different.
A friend of mine had the A7 with rigid rear suspension (ie none)
