My local shopping centre had two cash dispensing ATMs

that had no fees attached.
Then the shopping centre was taken over by new owners.
They removed the fee free ATMs and replaced them ATMs that charge $3 per transaction.
So now anyone who wants to use them, including bank balance is charged $3.

My bank (Westpac) no longer has a machine in the suburb but in the shopping mall there is a machine which has free transactions for Westpac customers - the machine is owned by a company called Precinct and has similar arrangements with several banks and credit unions.

Perhaps you need to change your bank and/or your shopping centre?

I am not with any of the “Big Four” banks.
I get almost all of my cash from the supermarket checkout.

Precinct also cater for a couple of credit unions and minor banks (can’t remember exactly which.

I was with BHP Credit Union which joined with BP to become Blue Sky., was with them for decades until Australian Unity took them over and wanted to charge for the credit card and generally ruin its services.

So I decided to move - previously had a Virgin Credit card which Westpac took over saying that it would always be free so I went to Westpac. They shut my local branch but still have the free ATM in the area, If that disappears there is a local building society I will joint.

Its rare that I withdraw cash, maybe once every two months (I like to keep a few hundred bucks in my wallet) however I use my credit or debit card for most transactions, so much more convenient.

I do the same thing. When I do withdraw cash it is always at least $200. Most transactions are with my debit card.
