My first foray out of Mandurah, Tuesday 8th April

No pictures of Mandurah as over the years I have posted plenty.
Let’s face it, seaside towns look mostly the same.
What I bring you today is my experience in the bush of south west Western Australia.
Today I visited Wellington Dam situated in the Collie River Valley.

Murals cover the face of the Wellington Dam.

First stop was at Honeymoon Pool.
In the Wellington National Park, beautiful beyond belief, it is natural pool surrounded by Peppermint, Jarrah and Marri trees along the Collie River.
Being a cool temperate forest, it is noticeably cooler in the valley than the surrounding countryside.
The coolness and moisture allows moss to grow on standing and fallen trees. Making the scenery, at least to me, spectacular.
Moss covered fallen Jarrah/Marri logs.

Collie River

Standing straight and reaching for the sky, Jarrah and Marri trees, interspersed with Peppermint trees

There is a tree growing here with a rather weird name.
Snottygobble - Persoonia Longifolia.
Found only in the Jarrah forests of South Western Western Australia.
Small tree - up to 5m, 16 feet tall, with flaky bark. Named so because between the skin and the seed is a sticky stringy mucusy substance which looks like snot!

As I was driving away I espied two Emus

Arriving back in Mandurah I was greeting with this beauty

That Dam looks amazing Bretrick, the size of the thing :astonished:. How do you paint something like that…
What a beautiful country you have access to. Get yourself a metal detector and make a living searching the land for gold nougats. I know it works because I watch it on the telly…

Yes, a fallen Jarrah. They can reach a height of 50 metres, 160 feet.
This one is approximately 35 - 40 metres.

Looks absolutely magical. So glad you are doing some healing forest bathing to detox from that recent work stress.
