There is supposed to be work, though, isn’t there? unemployment is low?
It’s just that it’s low paid jobs with poor terms and conditions
And I’m sure if the energy crisis means people are desperate enough to be forced into those type of jobs to be exploited that will suit the Tory’s agenda very nicely. Uppity peasants made to know their place
Ironically, for me to take on a second job, we’d have to get a second car. The income from the second job would probably not cover the cost of buying and running it.
Originally I had her down to last until the next GE in late 2024. My quip to Bruce about the next leadership vote being in May 2023 might actually not turn out to be a joke after all.
It always annoys me when politicians say they will have to make difficult decisions, which is always aimed at the ordinary people, what about making a difficult decision regarding a windfall tax on the energy companies, ?
The windfall tax should be used to keep gas & electric at a reasonable price point for all in my opinion,
and not paid into bank accounts in dribs and drabs .
Exactly ripple, how will business survive not only with the sky high energy costs, but people won’t be able to afford to shop in some of them, if all, or most of their income goes on energy bills…
Well without a reasonable gas/electric price for all businesses will collapse fish and chips will be off the menu. Inflation bad now will be sky high.
Here is a for instance… it’s rumoured 7 out of every 10 pubs will close .
We had a local farm shop not far away, they closed due to the 76k they would have to find for their gas/electric, more business will close and staff laid off, plus when people are having to find 700 per month for their energy how do people afford that?
They won’t be able to. People won’t even be able to get to work due to high fuel bills, so that will also account for the lack of staff and closing down shops.
We are in extraordinary times, living standards are dropping at the fastest rate in over 40 years, hard working people can no longer pay the bills, industry is suffering, small businesses closing.
This has coincided with a PM who is loathed by many and a massive shift to the right in the Tory Party.
Combine this with Covid, not being able to see your GP, and you have the perfect storm.
It will get worse before it gets better.
A Labour Government would be faced with the same unsolvable problems.
There is no magic bullet to fix this, whoever is in power is going to have a nightmare to try to manage it.
Labour are coming across as being far more understanding and humane than the Tories, so of course people are becoming more left wing.
I saw it all coming in the '80’s and decided to get out but I still weep for my country and my familys graves! A small island with memories of a very large empire ; rapid expanding popn which if young enough and they seem to be could very well save the coffers. But lets face it it is not a great empire anymore - perhaps stop thinking big and grow down to proper size?
