Hi
I was married most of my adult life and I am drawn to intelligent strong minded females
I am used to being told what my opinions are.
After being around for over seventy years Pixie I have had time to form opinions about countries, their leaders, and a bunch of other stuff. So most of my opinions are not suddenly formed from a set of news articles in the moment. As we all know, what the media says today, might be totally different to the headlines of tomorrow. It all depends on how they want you to think and react. Not so long ago the world was about to be consumed in a giant ice age, but now it seems that we will all be consumed by extreme weather events and global warming, caused by…you guessed it…All the car drivers and their passion for the good things in life…Anyone want to buy a shedload of electric heaters?
Fair point, Foxy, thanks I do think the media set their news for reactions and drama, and agree with you that it changes from day to day. But surely by consolidating information from different sources and different angles, it may be possible to come up with something close to the actual truth of the matter? Not that anyone has time for that, mind you…
My opinion of putin comes from his track history. Yes the media might put a spin on what’s happening in the world but something has to happen to report
It will be a short honeymoon
Hope you weren’t calling me a garden implement OGF!
I didn’t find out about Putin in the DM. There’s plenty of footage of him with the words coming out of the horse’s mouth in interviews and press conferences. These politician types do tend to give interviews so people watching can make up their own minds thank you very much.
Watching a hardtalk BBC interview with Mikhail Gorbachev last night it was interesting to see he had v similar opinions to Putin. Just said it in a nicer way and his objectives were a bit more honorable.
Quite! I certainly wouldn’t want her in mine.
Apropos of nothing at all, and not really sure where to place this idle observation, …
TRU(mp) + (Hitler’s) SS spells Truss.
They are being Sexist and showing themselves up to be ignorant and rude.
I don’t think Truss should be the Tory Party Leader or our PM but there’s no need for irrelevant mysogynistic insults about staying in the kitchen.
Pfft!
Sticks and stones Boot…
I didn’t even know what ‘mysogynistic’ meant, let alone spell it, until a couple of years ago when the woke brigade started using it.
The equivalent for anti male is misandry and misandrist. Worth remembering when faced with a vehement and vociferous combatant
Edit (after the first couple of likes)…It’s worthwhile reminding some people that it’s not all one way traffic!!
Misogyny seems to have acquired a broader meaning these days than it originally had - just as the word “Woke” has acquired a broader meaning too.
I didn’t know what “woke brigade” meant until a few years ago and I had to look it up when certain types of media sources started using the phrase a lot - I think it has been twisted into something quite different from its original tone and meaning.
Hi
I didn’t know what woke was until very recently…lt is not How I lived my life .
Politeness was how I was brought up, not worrying about if someone may be offended about something I said which contained words which had suddenly taken on new meanings.
Or a doctor’s receptionist
Absolutely Dex…
One of the problems with today’s world where people seem to get offended by things that were just taken in good humour in the old days is: The media find it very easy to raise peoples hackles by printing stuff that is bound to make folk angry or offend somebody…
It’s called ‘Action and reaction’ it apparently sells newspapers.
Exactly @OldGreyFox. We’ve discussed before the absurdity of those who are offended on behalf of those people who aren’t actually offended at all.
Where there is harmony, let’s unnecessarily poke the nest.
I can’t say I have an opinion on Truss as PM, but until she does the job how can any of us decide whether she will be good, or bad?
She hasn’t impressed me with things she has said, but she knows that, if she wants to keep the job, she needs to please the majority of voters.
Boris managed to do that with his support of Brexit, but he failed in lots of other things after Brexit.
Putin seems to be a power-hungry man & wants to control Russia with lies & threats. Perhaps he should learn that if he wants to continue leading his country honesty & respect for his people is the best way, but maybe he prefers to be a dictator!
My old boss used to tell me that people get promoted for what they’ve done and not what they say they’re going to do.
We can only judge Truss on her previous words and deeds. There’s a fair amount of questionable stuff in that list.
I dont view it as promotion, I see it as the Tory party being desperate to stay in power & voting for something completely different to Boris!
I am not keen on her ideas & Sunak supported Boris too much, so no great choice of either.
What worries me is that the Labour party have all the answers, but no valid plan to obtain the money to use them! So where do we vote when both top parties are not good enough to run the country?
There seems to be a slight misunderstanding of what Labour’s role is currently meant to be. Their job is to oppose, query, question and occasionally offer alternatives. They are not vying for election just yet.
Closer to the next GE, they will develop and explain their main policies, cost them and explain how they will be funded.
