Just a strange dream last night.
Picture a small country town, (my home town), small corner store, - though not situated on a corner.
Dated around 1950s, before I was born, the store decided to open 24 hours a day, serving for the first time inconsequential sit down food and coffee.
A short time later another small store opens and also caters with small meals and coffee in competition.
Then another store does the same, small meals and coffee.
By the 60s there are 4 small stores in a block all open 24 hours with meals and coffee.
This is a small town, less than 1000 people so not really conducive to having four 24 hour stores.
Late 60s one of these stores has closed. Early 1971 another has closed. Leaving 2 all night stores.
By this time I have started to go to the original shop, buying lollies and soft drinks.
1973 there is only the original store still operating. Though no longer trading 24 hours.
I know what brought this dream about though yesterday I did post about a childhood memory from the late 60s and early to mid 70s.
So that original store came to the fore. I still remember it was situated on Orr Street.
