She seems well qualified.

Marina Claire Wheeler was born in West Berlin on 18 August 1964, to Charles Wheeler, a BBC correspondent, and his second wife Dip Singh, an Indian Punjabi Sikh. Her elder sister is Shirin Wheeler.

Wheeler was educated at Bedales School and then the European School of Brussels, and then in the early 1980s at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, where she wrote for the student magazine Cantab. At the European School, she became friendly with Boris Johnson, later a journalist and politician.

After Cambridge, Wheeler returned to Brussels and worked there for four years. In 1987, she was called to the Bar, practising from chambers in London at One Crown Office Row. In her work as a barrister, Wheeler specialises in mental health matters and discrimination claims. In January 2004, she was appointed to the B-Panel of Junior Counsel to the Crown. In 2009, she joined the Bar Disciplinary Tribunal as a barrister member. In February 2016, she was appointed Queen’s Counsel.

Personal life

On 8 May 1993, a pregnant Wheeler married her childhood friend Boris Johnson, whose previous marriage had ended 12 days earlier.

In September 2018, Johnson and Wheeler issued a statement confirming that after 25 years of marriage, they had separated “several months ago” and begun divorce proceedings. They reached a financial settlement in February 2020, and the divorce was finalised in 2020.

In August 2019, Wheeler revealed that she had been diagnosed with cervical cancer earlier in the year and had undergone two operations to be in remission.

Ms Wheeler seems to be a woman of integrity and should not be blamed for making a mistake in marrying a man with none - love is blind … :man_shrugging:

True.
I didn’t realize she is the daughter of Charles Wheeler. He was a very distinguished foreign correspondent for the BBC.

Charles Wheeler one of a rare breed:

Wheeler, who was born in 1923, in Germany, a year after the BBC was founded. He was educated at Cranbrook in Kent and served five years in the Royal Marines during the second world war before joining the BBC in 1947, spending 11 years as a writer and reporter for the BBC World Service. He made his name during his four-year posting to Delhi, where he covered the Dalai Lama’s flight from Tibet, and while in India he met his wife Dip Singh, whom he married in 1962.

Wheeler was based in the US for a decade from 1965, covering stories including the assassination of Martin Luther King, Watergate and the shooting of presidential candidate Robert Kennedy. He was based in Washington DC as the BBC’s chief US correspondent between 1969 and 1973. He later went on to become Europe correspondent.

Wheeler was also a popular host of Panorama and Newsnight as well as a producer.

AFAIK, no doubts about his integrity either.

Hi

A very clever move on Starmer’s part.

Starmer now also has Sue Gray, the partygate investigator as his chief of staff.

he needs to appoint good advisors because he is surrounded by nutters,
mind you i wouldnt trust him wi a brick
i read a very long time ago that Labour had to nurture Scotland, because if it lost Scotland we would be doomed to Tory rule forever… and if you notice the rise in the SNP was mirrored by the decline in the Labour party…
has the tide turned in Scotland?.. only time will tell but the Labour leaders should take heed as should the torrys.

I’m willing to give Labour a chance , can’t worse than Sunak and the Tory party .
Since 2010 communities have crashed ,housing has become unaffordable , crime is everywhere! NHS is in chaos.
I have absolutely no trust in the conservatives since the covid partygate .

Who?
He has marginalised the old momentum crew. John McDonald (not actually a nutter) is now left bleating from the side-lines and Corbyn himself is out soon. So who do you mean by nutters? Raynor? Reeves? Cooper? Lammy? Milliband? Benn? Thornberry?
I’ve seen all these wipe the floor with government in debates. And when you look at the actual government ministers can you claim that they are all sound and sensible?

so you think the criteria for running the country is they? won an argument ?

Reduction to the silly is not an answer to my question.

i feel no urge to allow you to don your inquiziters hat, go fish…

Suit yourself - but then don’t make claims you can’t justify.

it cant be easy, being god-like, feeling the need to correct everyone
have you considered a day off?
i’m sure we might all enjoy that
it cant be easy when everyone has to justify their posts, i’m surprised you havent considered asking that we send them to you first for clearance…
in Scotland the kids used to have a phrase for ass-holes [like you]
GO AND BOIL YER HEID

The correct phrasing is “g’way 'n boil yir heid”
(You have no idea how enjoyable it is, after your little rant about correcting people, I see an opportunity to correct you. Just perfect. Especially as I was not previously correcting you. I was merely asking you to explain a claim you made. Which is quite reasonable as your claim was unsubstantiated. There could have been substance and logic for your claim. We’ll never know. Or you could have simply ignored my request of course. But I do appreciate the effort you are making in your avoidance of providing details behind your claim.)

Actually its ‘awa an bile yer heid’

Thank you for the correction, appreciated.
