Had geeks2u around today to set it up properly.
1 hour later, all up and running.
No way could I have done the necessaries, transferring from old lappy, and the rest.
Money well spent
Probably good value for money. Have had one for 3 years and like it. No problems and whisper-quiet.
There must be something in the air, My friend ought a new Acer laptop recently too, I set it up for him so it only had a local login and installed the programs that he wanted.
His needs were very simple so it was basically LibreOffice and Thunderbird Mail reader. he can never remember his damn passwords so will probably try to persuade him to install Keepass.
We also have to get Zoom installed or at least the browser extension of Zoom for a meeting later this month
I wrote a batch file to run on his old computer to get all his files off it onto a USB HDD which we will transfer on to his new laptop when I see him next.
At the moment he is in Tassie so can’t do much at the moment (his son was Deputy Premier of Tassie for a while)
Price was not expensive. I am sure I will get a few years from it.
well done @Bretrick on new laptop i am like you not got an idea with computers but luckily for me my son is a computer whizkid, he set up my new latop and tranferred everything without losing anyrhing same with our phone and internet inside the home,
Don’t leave it in a park!
You should have bought the one that sings
A dell
My faithful laptop is over 12 years old and I’m dreading the day I have to buy a new one.
Laptops cost peanuts. I’ve got three and I’m thinking of getting another to use as an external hard drive, keep photos in one place and view them. Maybe never use it for internet.
Actually that’s a good idea, having one that’s never on the internet.
It’s fun to have a new toy and laptops are almost an extension of our mouths and brains these days. They are so reliable; I’m sure you’ll get years of enjoyment from it. Carry on!
My old desktop running on Windows Vista is still working perfectly Morty, I disabled the internet and just use it for backup, electronics drawings, and other stuff that I want to keep private with no risk of it being hacked. Some of the old drawing programmes are better and easier to understand than the new ones, especially for a died in the wool old bloke like me…
No wonder you dislike M$ Windows , that has to be one of the worse operating systems they ever produced.
I was lucky my desktop was able to be upgraded to Windows11, I notice that it is now hard to get desktops with space for extra hard drives, you are lucky if it has room for one!
It’s perfect for what I use it for Bruce. My computer needs are not that data heavy, and everything fits okay. It would be far too slow to do anything with the internet, so It’s not possible to access the net on it because I removed all the necessary programmes and it’s made it quite fast and responsive. And nobody can hack it or send updates so it stays the way I left it.
