How do you prefer your toast?

Anything between 3 and 7. I don’t like the Asian thing of #1 and I have never heard of only toasting one side.

I am still of the opinion that fresh bread is better untoasted and toasting is really just to rescue stale bread.

However I do have two gadgets that get more use than my toaster. One is a sandwich toaster. ie You make a sandwich then toast the outside between two flat hotplates.

The other is a sandwich maker which compresses and cuts the sandwich

I agree that two day old bread makes better toast. I love a toasted cheese (cheddar) and tomato sandwich

I like mine number 5 with vegemite but sometimes it turns out number 9, If I’m not keeping an eye on it, I would only toast one side if making cheese on toast, put it under the grill to melt the cheese

I was brought up on one-side toast, done under a grill - it was the way that my father learned to serve it to (gentlemen) officers in the Royal Navy 1934-1946 … Cruise ships served it that way, too, before they became behemoths …
