You can only invest £20,000 in an ISA Annie, and if you don’t pay tax it’s a waste of time.
Put yer 20 grand in premium bonds, it’s also tax free and you can win substantial amounts. I’ve won a grand this year alone…
I can understand why you’ve stayed away from the stock market. It can be pretty unsettling watching people lose so much money, especially when they’re close to retirement. A 4.25% return for five months sounds like a nice, predictable option. Do you usually prefer safer investments like CDs and savings accounts, or have you ever considered other options?
It has only been the last 5 years that I have put my money into term deposits. I look for the best rate and if that is outside my two accounts then I go there.
My current term deposit is 5.25% over 5 months.
5.25% for a guaranteed rate is honestly pretty solid these days! With the government protection on deposits up to $250k, it makes total sense to keep things simple and safe, especially when peace of mind is the main goal.
I don’t think the interest rate is important at such an uncertain time because the way things are going you are better off investing in a solar power unit and generator or digging a well in your garden. People who don’t drink are buying alcohol stocks so that they can trade with others!
