Henry J. Heinz

Henry John Heinz, the founder of the Heinz food company, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this day, 11 October, back in 1844.

Henry founded the company, F & J Heinz in 1869, with his brother John Heinz and a cousin, Frederick Heinz. The company’s slogan, 57 varieties was introduced in 1896, though by then, the company was selling more than 60 different products. Heinz said he chose 5 because it was his lucky number, while 7 was his wife’s.

Henry died May 4th 1919 (sauce AI) :icon_wink: strange, it is said, he was full of Beans on that day

And a million house wives every day pick up a can of beans and say
Beans mean Heinz.

Henry was responsible for all the ozone layer damage, all that methane!

Don’t buy Heinz Baked Beans any more, they were the only ones that have gone off in the tin ie the tin swelled. I stick with SPC and they do small individual tins in 4 packs too.

Was it the methane?

I make my own baked beans nowadays, doubling the quantities for the tomato sauce recipe. This produces enough to bottle up a mixture to use for a few bloody Mary’s.

Crosse & Blackwell began as a grocery store in London in 1706, making baked beans, now called Branston, like the pickle.
