Good Morning Wednesday, 8th January 2025

Good morning to you all on yet another cool, gloomy day with temperatures just creeping up into the low 20s.

Last night I received a phone call from my daughter asking me to look after their dog while they are in Japan skiing (totally mad), of course I said “yes”. It’s a labrador - to me a big floppy dog but too big for me to walk as it could pull me over when it gets too excited (like seeing another dog) so they are arranging a dog walker. Should be an easy gig - I basically only have to feed it, throw a ball for it in the garden and pick up its poop.

Back to today, apart from a visit to the chemist to get my prescription - it’s an escript on my phone which I hate - too much of the morning was spend unsuccessfully trying to connect my new security cameras to one of my NASs (Network Attached Storage). I am buggered if I could get it to work.

I might have another go on another day when I will start afresh, it is not the end of the world if it doesn’t work but I hate things that don’t work as they should. :frowning_with_open_mouth:

Have no real plans for today, I am tempted to put the car in the garden and make use of the showers (if any occur) to soak the bugs off the windscreen. Last night only received 1mm of rain but at least the ground is no longer cracking and the plants aren’t wilting.

Actually my phone just beeped at me with a “marine wind warning” so it might get a bit blowy around here this arvo.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, enjoy your day, keep warm.

Take care…

Morning all – below freezing this morning with a heavy frost

I sent that post about Australia to my brother – he has confirmed he is computer generated which means the computer code is defective!

Unsurprisingly the beast is still refusing to leave the house so there was a little gift for me to clean up this morning

Wonder if our cycling enthusiast members are up to this. Local radio have interviewed a man who is raising money for a local hospice by spending 12 days pedalling on a static bike at a local gym. He is allowed a 5 minute break every hour, but he didn’t take a break for the first 36 hours so was able to “bank” those minutes so he could have a short sleep. He is aiming to set a record of 280 hours, he is due to finish on Sunday! That takes stamina! :biking_man:

Not much planned for today – as the temperatures are not forecast to get much above freezing I will just stay warm and not venture out!

Take care – stay warm

Each day is better than the last , and one good thing is im getting some sleep . Im now on my second bottle of Benylin, perhaps I should go steady on it , but needs must .

well think I shall watch some TV film , or escape to the Country .

have a good afternoon all .

Good morning from the frozen North!

Oh, wait…no, this is Florida .

This is rushed email, as I am off to take care of a lengthy list of errands. I enjoyed running around town yesterday with few people on roads.

There are major wildfires in California this morning, affecting one of the communities where I Iived when I was younger. Unfortunately, it is the perfect storm of problems - Santa Ana winds coursing over wide swathes of dry chaparral surrounded by dense housing areas. Unusually, there was very little that the fire departments could do in some areas to save homes - many of which were not insured because the underwriters no longer issue policies in fire-prone areas.

I see the bottom of the cup, so off I go.

Stay warm but not too much so!

It must be a serious situation to have bush fires in winter.

I recall that a few decades ago, I (and others) couldn’t understand the fuss about these US bush fires because they affected such a relatively small area. What I didn’t comprehend was that even though they were comparatively small the population density is massive compared to here so a small fire affects a lot more people.

Winter is a time for burning off to reduce fuel load but even this is being reviewed after the disastrous 2019 fires.
