Good morning to you all on another warm, sunny day. It won’t last, Cyclone Alfred is approaching the SE Queensland coast, apparently it is zig zagging which is bad news because it make predicting landfall difficult and worse it means it picks up more moisture to dump over land - expected to arrive Thiursday/Friday.
The extreme edges of this cyclone will affect me with heavy rain expected at the end of the week, I don’t mind. My son posted videos of the interior of his ship rolling in the cyclone I will try to screenshot one. The ship is rolling like buggery on its way to Sydney. According to BOM it is the furthest south any cyclone has hit since 1974 and will hit the coast near Brisbane.
For me I have had a pleasantly busy morning, my daughter and husband stayed last night as they could not pick up their dog from kennels until today so we went to the club for a meal last night and I saw them off early(ish) this morning. They told me all abut their trip.
I was out sanding and varnishing this morning. I also found more suitable screws for mounting the TV the supplied ones are ridiculously large. They are obviously roofing screws, I removed the sealing rings so they will do the job.
The vet appointment went well , so proud of my dog , let the vet poke and prod , looking at her teeth and gums all in good order . She had her Booster and just a couple of nails clipped … Came away £80 pound lighter . But well worth the peace of mind .
Im expecting a parcel today ,I bought a garden bench seat , I have one seating area in the Sun , now I shall put this one in the Shade .
@swimfeeders enjoy your trip out , its a sunny day for it .
@Bruce hope you don’t get too much of the Cyclone Rain, what are the birds eating, Worms or insects ?
I think it is grass seeds and roots but I don’t know for sure, parrots tend to eat seeds, berries and fruit but I don’t think they would turn their nose up at the odd grub.
Mental health is very important as you say, everyone needs an interest.
Thank you everyone for your kind comments regarding Mum. The slightly better news is that one of my brother’s granddaughters visited her (a young lady you don’t mess with!), she is also Mum’s favourite great grandchild. She managed to persuade/cajole Mum into eating something and then took a photo. She looks very thin and frail but managed a smile.
I remember seeing a lot of those birds when I was over there Bruce also hearing Kookaburras for the first time!
Had a problem using my debit card at a cash machine yesterday. The machine showed a message saying it didn’t recognise the card (one I have used in the same machine many times!). Spent over an hour trying to contact the bank, finally spoke to a human who said there was no problem with my card and the machine must be at fault – despite the people in front and behind me in the queue having no problem. Their only suggestion was to try a different machine and if it still doesn’t work then apply for a new card. Fortunately this isn’t my only bank account and as it is the second problem I have had with this bank (Halifax) will probably close the account and go elsewhere!
No real plans for today – just take the day as it comes
Good morning everyone, although it might be afternoon before I post this…
Good on yer Swimmy, nice to hear you getting out there and doing stuff, hats off to you…
After a restless night and a still delightfully painful knee I was determined to assist Mrs Fox with our Tesco shopping and drive the couple of miles to the store. It’s times like this when I see the wisdom of an automatic gearbox, but you can’t ignore the pleasure it gives while out on the open road when dropping down a couple of gears, and flashing past some young spunk in a BMW…
Another relaxing day planned with daytime TV and Mrs Fox for company…Uh!
Bit of a spat yesterday so no pancakes for a grumpy old fox…
Good morning from the gusts of Florida! The patio doors are howling with the wind cutting through - the results of a cold from that whipped through in the night. I’m somewhat dreading having to meet with two contractors on a piling and stairwell project at the summer place later in the day. It’s a little daunting to be in charge of an engineering project in which I don’t have a great deal of knowledge, but I keep reminding myself that this is the reason we pay for expert advice. Until then, I’m accomplishing the indoor things with the winds bashing everything around.
That’s quite an impressive little storm, Bruce. It’s seems unusual that it would just sit there scrubbing the coast for a few days. I hope the coastal flooding and erosion isn’t too bad - and the galahs don’t have too rough of a go of it (I’ve never seen one.)
The secret is finding (reasonable) enjoyment as you can, so one can keep that beast of ego in check. Carry on safely, Swimfeeders and keep looking for those simple pleasures
Aww, that is so sweet. Isn’t it fun to start thinking about more outdoor time! Nice idea to have seating in the sun and shade.
That’s really good news and I am so pleased that you were able to get a photo of her!
That is so true! Throw in a few hills, and having a spunky car doing your bidding is great fun.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a pancake day!
With that I am off to walk the restless dogs. The neighbors were just out with their pups so mine need to go out and reclaim their territory.
Good afternoon from sunny Italy, but I’m missing it all. Why, you may ask? Because I’m in a hospital bed! I’ve been in and out of hospital these last few days, spent two nights in the emergency ward, then was dismissed, but now I’m back in again as my electrolyte disorder is causing me huge problems. I have very low potassium and sodium level so they put me on a drip to get levels back up again. Now awaiting other tests and hopefully I will be able to leave this place soon and get back into the real world
I hope you all had a good Pancake Day.
Oh, no! I was thinking about you just this morning, wondering why we hadn’t heard from you. I am so incredibly sorry that the reason wasn’t a more enjoyable one . Hopefully those infusions will get your K and Na levels right away. Take care and good thoughts your way!
That’s not the news I was hoping for Rose…
I hope they are looking after you and that you will be back home soon…
I’ve also had my share of hospitals just lately and it makes you realise…There’s no place like home…
Sorry to hear you not been well @Rose2 , hopefully you will be out soon .the sun is here to last a few days more ,.hope its the same where you are .
Take care and enjoy the rest time .
An auto does it even better and quicker, just slap the lever over into manual mode select the gear you want etc - does it much quicker because no faffing about with a clutch.
I wish I had gone auto much earlier, even my brother went back to the UK after renting a car (you can’t rent a manual car here) and immediately sold his car and bought an auto.
Sorry to hear that you were crook, Dr Bruce recommends bananas lots of potassium (I’m told)
It is only a cat 2 cyclone, there is a slight chance it might become cat 3 but the slow movement is the worry because it is just picking up more moisture they are talking about it dropping a metre of rain in some areas once it hits land.
All the schools are shut, public transport has ceased, airports closed, SES and flood rescue specialists have been moved up from the south in preparation.
Personally I am thinking of cancelling my visit to my daughter because I don’t fancy driving Picton Rd or Macquarie Pass coming home during the torrential rain predicted for this area on Sunday when it be comes a Low pressure area moving south. (That is the forecast at the moment but could change.)
You have to remember that cyclones here rotate anticlockwise so, on the east coast, the south side of the cyclone/low drags moist air off the ocean adding to the rainfall whereas on the north side is drier air off the continent.
Only people experienced with cyclones/typhoons/hurricanes would put “only” and “Cat 2” together.
I have friends on Pt. Lookout, and as it usually goes, he is out flying somewhere in Asia, while she was stuck evacuating kids, dogs, cats, and whatever important papers she could stuff in their SUV. She has not been saying nice things about him or the cyclone.
It could be worse, it was a cat 4 at one stage but it is over slightly cooler waters now.
I have moved away from cyclones in Queensland in a hurry but do get east coast lows where I live which are much shorter lived, occur in winter but can dump similar amounts of water.
Gosh!
I’ve sorry Rose but I’ve only just picked up on this
Wishing you a speedy recovery and hope you’ll be able to get back into that glorious sunshine very soon
