Good morning to you all on a lovely, sunny spring day with temps in the high 20s.
I was hoping a package of mine would arrive this morning but looks like I have to wait until tomorrow for delivery. It is not urgent just a replacement water pump for use in my camper, the previous el cheap one leaked and the motor was a mass of rust.
Wandered down to the council office at the community centre with the booking sheets for my seniors club for 2027.
On the way home called into the supermarket for milk and ended up buying some Rocky Road, just could not resist
Hard to credit that this is the last day of September and that tomorrow we are in the last quarter of the year. Where does time go?
It’s time to buy some new baking trays, tins, racks etc. I’ve had a clear out of some of the old ones, no doubt Amazon will come into play although you can’t beat a bit of “real” shopping, we’ll indulge in both, still got some indoor gardening to finish.
Bit of a grey started to the day with a spot of rain, but it looks to be brightening later.
Just another quick one today, run the wife to the gym and then take her to the outlet shopping park. Something to do with a sale of some kind. That’s about it for the day, unless something else happens.
Good morning!
Cloud, dull, drizzle, but not too cold
I haven’t posted for a couple of days as there hasn’t been much to report
Though I made a brief trip to a supermarket for the essentials like milk, bread, and whisky
Other than that I’ve spent a lot of time just watching history videos on YouTube and funeral adverts on daytime TV
It’s October tomorrow! – and I really must pull my finger out
So the plan for today is to -
Have a walk round the park, raining or not
Shower, more coffee, breakfast
Do about three days of washing up
Catch up with emails to friends
Good afternoon everyone, beautiful bright, warm, sunny day to mark the end of September, hoping October starts off just as good, I knew we’d go back to very warm weather again, it was much too early for those colder temperatures we were having.
I bought one of those at the supermarket this morning Chilli, a pumpkin, not a lantern. It’s a green one, quite small, not sure how I’m going to cook it yet, I’ve got loads of new recipes to choose from, spoilt for choice.
Wow, putting it that way Bruce - “last quarter of the year” - sure sounds incredible! What about: “Just over 12 weeks to Christmas!”
I get them every year - they make terrific seasonal decorations on the coffee table and stay fresh for ages.
My son usually makes soup out of them in a rather creative way. They’re dead solid, not much use at all for carving but great for eating!
Pumpkins are very popular as a veggie in Australia. It took me years before I could eat them at all because my uncle used to grow them as pig food in the UK.
Pumpkin scones are very popular too.
The pumpkins grown and sold for Halloween are inedible, the flesh is very stringy (as I understand it)
They’re full of stringy pith and seeds Bruce. Pull that out and they’re practically hollow which makes them ideal for carving. You can separate the seeds, clean and roast them on a baking tray. With a little salt and seasoning they make tasty nibbles, waste not want not.
I am sure you are right I have never bought a pumpkin myself, the info about the Halloween pumpkins was on the radio recently from the lady that does the weekly report from Sydney Fruit Markets on the ABC.
The only time I eat pumpkin is when I am eating out on a fixed menu where chips and salad is not an option
