Good morning merry souls on this lovely sunny morning, actually it is supposed to shower later but the morning is lovely with temps in the mid 20s.
After taking the dog for his walk this morning I decided that it was time to get some of the grass cut so I bit the bullet and mowed the council’s bit outside my block. Hopefully tomorrow I will do my back garden.
My phone just went “bing” with Australia Post telling me some goods I ordered from China is now in the country and I should receive them by Friday or Monday.
The sky is clouding over as I type though to be honest it doesn’t look like rain clouds, rain was supposed to arrive yesterday too but I only received 0.5mm and that fell during the night. We shall see.
Have a lovely Wednesday, I have the excitement of bin day tomorrow!
We’ve planted agapanthus on our council’s bit.No need to bring out the mower although half of it is taken up by a foot track.
I’ve just recovered from the excitement of bin day. There’s a different council at the end of our street and everything happens on a Friday there. And of course some leave empty ones out for a day or two so bins can loom large in our neighbourhood.
Morning all – very cold (below freezing last night) snow still lying but hopefully no more today.
My smart meter is already in the red again!
Beast was good and left no little gifts and even went out despite the cold – I will let her back in shortly – yes I know she has a fur coat but it is really really cold out there!
Busy day today – 10.00 am the carpenter is coming to discuss building a summer house, then I have to do some grocery shopping before the cleaner arrives at 3.30 to talk about exactly what I want done.
Take care – hope everyone has a great day
UPDATE - disaster! I raised the bedroom blinds to wipe the windows when I tried to lower them they were stuck - pulled a little too hard and they fell off the ceiling! I now have to find someone to come and fix them!
Good morning - It is cold, bright and frosty. The temperature is just on 0ºC at 9.30 A.M. A lot lower than that overnight. That should see off any summer flowers that have been tenaciously hanging on until now. More leaves from the oak tree too I expect.
The district nurse is calling to change the dressing on the Nephrostomy incision today. Also see about wearing a waist bag instead of a leg one. Should be more comfortable and enable me to be more mobile.
Good Morning from Robert’s Residence…
Mrs Fox’s knee has taken a turn for the worse and she hardly got any sleep last night, so the local surgery suggested a visit to A&E for an x-ray. You have to go through A&E to get one…
I managed to do the essential Tesco shop and have just finished breakfast so we are off to spend the next 8 hours at the hospital…
It’s a good job it’s a rest day. The washer has been working away and the mend appears to have been successful.
Minus something this morning when I checked, even our postman was wearing bottoms…Wuss! However, I was surprised to see the paper lad shooting around on his bike in his shorts…Respect…
Our bin day tomorrow, so it goes out tonight after dinner and the delicious M&S Cottage pie…
You’re right Mart, I think this cold has just finished off the last of the summer pot plants.
I leave you with this little Gem from Flanders and Swann…
Thanks OGF - that did cheer me up. I have someone calling on Friday, but I think I may have to get new blinds (fortunately I also have curtains in the bedroom so won’t be frightening any neighbours )
Nothing here can outdo that lovely autumn tree in @mart 's backyard, however. What a beauty! The process of leaves changing and falling is like a little symphony in the tree - chlorophyll stops producing sugars, phytochrome proteins turn off like little switches, and other proteins build a sort of scab on base of the leaf where the leaf can break away. Just incredible! All the while, I can barely get dinner on the table .
@Psmith, how nice that you planted agapanthus! Are they the pink, purple, or white ones? Congratulations on garbage day! We have lost our county lost the recycling, so all those materials are temporarily going to the landfill until another option is found.
@Sheila, if you have a contractor visiting for a quote, that handy guy might be willing to reattach those blinds. It wouldn’t hurt to ask!
Oh gosh, @OGF. I was really hoping that your wife’s knee would resolve on its own and that. it is a minor condition. Good luck with x-ray.
Mr. SM is omnipresent in the house, so we are off to do some discount grocery shopping at the navy base commissary. There is a 5% surcharge on the groceries (compared to no tax on groceries in Florida), but most of their products are a hair above retail pricing. The commissary is an hour from the house, so we will be lugging coolers and boxes.
And with that I am off. Here’s to paper boys and hardy runners!
Blue and white. They were very popular here in the olden days but they don’t suit the modern garden. Our front yard is full of them. The insects love their wide leaves for sitting on top and hiding underneath AND when you deadhead the flowers the native bees like to live in the remaining stalks.
We’ve had a recent recycling scandal. One company were saying they were recycling the soft plastic but were discovered just storing it so that’s all gone to the landfill now too.
They also spread like a weed and are big problem in the bush. There are a lot in my area but once the flower starts the “environmentalists” cut the head off before it flowers or sets seed.
