Good morning all. A pleasant enough day today though a heatwave threatens until Saturday.
Went for my walk this morning which was nice after yesterday’s slackness, I always feel better after a good walk. I am not in the slightest bit envious of those with snow It looks nice when it is white and fluffy but I remember the black sludge it turned into though I also remember a lot of fun as a kid with my toboggan.
When I got home the sun had disappeared behind some clouds so I took the opportunity to try the waypoints on my drone (previously spoilt by the camera looking into the sun. It turned out not too bad, but still some tweaks I can make. It is not exciting video but fun to do, I am thinking of illegally flying it tonight to get the same shot at night.
This where it crossed the expressway during what passes for the peak hour in Wollongong.
Yesterday’s brief evening storm yielded 4mm of rain, not enough but better than nothing. Shortly I will be out in the garden spraying Roundup (the cheap Chinese version) on things I don’t like or don’t want.
Good morning!
Still cold but the clear blue sky & bright sunshine have been replaced by a grey overcast & general dullness
I wouldn’t be surprised if we have snow by the end of the day
I have a medical appointment later this morning; nothing planned for the rest of the day
@Bruce only the rich had a Toboggan, I slid down a hill on a Carrier Bag, it frit me to death, I was going that fast as I headed toward the road , I managed to stop , but never did it again , speed was not in my genes .
Its been a frosty night but no more snow as yet, it 4c and sleet is predicted .
Good morning - We just had about 2 minutes of snow. It added unnoticeably to the light dusting already on the ground. Snow is an unusual thing in the South these days, so any is worth a glance and and a mention.
We used a corrugated iron sheet bent up at the front as a toboggan. It worked very well.
Another crisp and frosty morning here on the south coast. Just come back from my daily walk with a few snow flurries in the air, but the temperatures are supposed to be going up a bit later.
Not sure what’s happening today, Mrs G is off to the gym later, so I’ll be sat here in the warm and watch a film or two or maybe generally mess around with my PC. Keep looking and thinking about buying a new lens for my camera, something which I’ve been mulling over for some months now and may actually do it.
That is like all the ones they hire or sell in the Ski resorts here except made out of plastic of course, they don’t have runners like mine, I suspect they are not very steerable.
Good morning all. The worst of the storm seems to be over so I decided to clear our drive. Thank goodness it is not very long. The sun is shining which helps. There is no way I am taking the car out so I will have to walk to the shop.
Note the icicles on the top left corner. My neighbours boiler flu goes through the roof and melts the snow which runs down and freezes. That is what I think the cause is.
Ay Up from South Yorkshire…
It seems like we didn’t get as much snow as everyone else, not that I’m complaining mind.
The temperature dropped to minus 5 C during the night, but it had warmed up to minus 3 by the time I went for my walk/jog. I was on the canal towpath for just gone 8:00 am and the sun hadn’t come up yet, but you can see where it will…
The problem with living close to the site of the UK’s biggest power station is, now it’s long gone, all the wires from the national grid still radiate out from here. Hence the many pylons…
As a boy I spent a lot of time at a disused sand quarry. It was out in the wilds and contained lots of large sand hills and derelict concrete structures…Ideal for many reenactments of world war two with a couple of friends.
One day all the sand hills were covered in deep snow and there were some big lads with a toboggan made from tubular steel with wooden slats on the top…
They asked if I would like a go…So I climbed on board and they pushed me off…
It was just a blur as I bumped and banged my way down the slope at the speed of sound.
I was holding on for dear life as it tried to throw me off at each hump and bump…
I survived and arrived at the bottom, shaken and stirred!..It was the fastest I had ever travelled, but like Eliza…Never again…
The quality of your drone camera is brilliant Bruce, and it’s making me want to get my drone out again…This was the last time I took it out…and as you can see, a bit naff…
Good afternoon everyone, national holiday today Epiphany, the wise men have visited with their gifts.
Another tradition we have is the “Befana” - a witch-like old lady on her broomstick (Italian folklore) leaves pressies in all the children’s stockings, and now it’s time to pack everything away.
It’s pouring down with rain, strong winds and apparently temperatures will plummet tomorrow, bringing a possible snowflake or two! With all this talk of snow in the UK in almost all areas, am I being contaminated by all your snow pictures, I wonder? No, thank you, you can keep it, no need to share, it’s all yours.
It’s already snowing in central parts of the country, fingers crossed it won’t reach us down here.
Stay warm and be careful if you’re venturing out on slippery roads.
No Bes, it was Thorpe Marsh, and is probably the reason why I left school without any qualifications.
The large classroom window overlooked the construction of the power station (1958 - 1963) and everyday I watched it being built instead of listening to the teacher.
I have to say that I am very pleased with it. This one is streets ahead of my last one, it has a 4K camera and now that they have added this Waypoint business it is quite clever though I think it is a bit clunky to set up.
Last night I illegally flew it at night, it is not invisible either as it has two flashing green lights showing to the rear indicating that it is connected to the controller and when it lands it turns on a bright light at about 10 metres.so it can see the ground. I probably will never do that again I just wanted to see how it went. I have not been arrested yet.
The camera is obviously not designed for night photography but it was interesting enough to do just once, stills would be better if it was hovering rather than moving obviously.
My last drone was hardly used because it was fiddly to set up with the phone but this controller has a built in screen which makes all the difference - turn it on and it is ready to go. I can’t wait to go somewhere interesting to fly it, It is school holidays until February so that will have to wait.
