Good morning to you all. It is your last chance to enjoy 2024, in less than 24 hours it will be gone for ever. Make the most of what is left.
Not sure what sort of weather today will bring, it is still quite warm ~26Ā° for me but there are some grey clouds further north and thunderstorms are predicted. Letās hope they also bring rain because dry lightning is such a bushfire risk especially at the moment. On the bright side, according to BOM, it will be out to sea before the midnight fireworks.
I have spent most of the morning sorting and tidying, packed away my sonās new medals in the safe, sorted out a pile of miscellaneous cables I removed from a junk drawer - oh! how I love ziplock sandwich bags! - and generally making good.
Rang and made an appointment forThursday with my dentist to repair a tooth. Entirely my fault, I love Gingernut biscuits BUT I know I should soften them with tea rather than nibble at one straight from the biscuit barrel. The inevitable happened and I broke a bit of tooth off, it is from one of those teeth filled with mercury amalgam too Ho humā¦
Oh Bruce I feel for you ā I hate visiting the dentist! Hope yours is gentle and sympathetic. I think my aversion dates back to when I was a child and I vividly recall having a tooth pulled, very painful and I left the surgery with a bleeding mouth ā the dentist was known locally as the butcher!!
Still not 100% - canāt shift this cough, still there are lot of people worse off than me so I will stop whinging!
Neighbours are off on holiday this morning so I am back on cat servant duty. For some reason I thought they were leaving early hours of the morning but when I checked with them yesterday they said they are not leaving until 10.00 so I got to stay in bed a little longer! They will be away for 18 days this time ā and will miss the gale force winds that are forecast for later today and tonight and the freezing temperatures forecast for the rest of the week!
Take care ā hope everyone has an enjoyable New Yearās Eve (however they choose to mark it)
You will enter 2025 first Bruce, so let us know what itās like and Iāll decide if I want to go or stay here in 2024ā¦
Iām leaving the laptop at home for the next two days so Iāll be switching over to my dreaded smartphone, stand by for bad spelling and intermittent reports.
Setting off for Harrogate in 20 minutes and the weather report says strong winds and heavy rain, so it should be goodā¦Not as good as the heavy seas at Scarborough thoughā¦
Isnāt Rishi Sunaks constituency up here somewhere, I think Iāll look in on him and tell him what a good job he was doing as PMā¦
Happy New Year everyone, catch you on the other sideā¦
Good morning - Grey and breezy with a temperature of 10C at present.
Canāt go anywhere yet, We have to wait for the District Nurse to arrive. She has been doing the weekly change of the Nephrostomy dressing but Mrs Mart has seen it done so many times that she did it last time under the supervision of the nurse. She made a good job of it.
It will be the same this time and if agreed, she will do the change from now on. This should avoid staying in waiting for the Nurse to call.
Ought to be out there at the shops ideally. The basics such as bread cereal and milk have run low.
Well, I have just finished watching the Sydney fireworks so it is 2025 (for me) and I am able to confirm that the world didnāt end in 2024.
The Harbour Bridge looked spectacular and some of the fireworks were terrific.
I caught the last bit of the NYE concert starring Robbie Williams, he decided to end his act with āYouāre the Voiceā which was unfortunate because it just showed what a good singer John Farnham was (and I am not a particular fan of either).
Thatās it, I am off to bed - to be honest about 10:30pm I didnāt think I would stay awake to midnight but I did.
Good afternoon everyone from the sunny Mediterranean, weāve been having lots of sunshine and amazing starry nights, but very cold. My daughter tells me about the fantastic sky she loves gazing at when she arrives home from her evenings out with friends, Iām never out and about at that time, 10pm is my bedtime
Weāll be having a quiet family meal this evening, lentils will definitely be present on the dinner table, traditionally we eat them on New yearās eve for good luck, particularly money-wise.
Thanks Bruce you will probably be in bed now but Iāve still got 8 hours to go before we see the new year in. Seeing as you recommend 2025 I will give it a try, itās better than the alternativeā¦
Made it to Harrogate safely but the wind is fierce and its chucking it down.
An hours kip now before going for a meal to a local restaurant. Mrs Fox is down in the bar having a swift gin and tonic with her friend.
Have never tried OFC on anything but a computer, Iād have to refer to Keepass for the password and I find the phone screen too small to read anything more than a sentence or two or looking at occasional photos.
I have ordered a new tablet (a Lenovo M9) for a seemingly good price so might try it on that.
Just got up and had a shower on this overcast morning, though there was sun earlier (itās nearly 8am) it is very quiet out (public holiday of course)
Oh me too. My dentist is terrific but unfortunately in my head he is one of those evil NHS butchers with those hideous, slow drills on an articulated arm driven by a black, noisy belt. Absolutely terrifying and totally in my mind.
