I am in Lightning Ridge, the Opal mining town. Lovely weather now but this morning in Gulgong was very misty though it had all burned off by 8am and the sun has shone ever since. Easy drive - one car in front of you is a traffic jam but overtaking is easy.
This town is known for its Black Opal.
Stopped a few times in rest areas on the way, my sciatica was playing up and standing cured it for an hour or so.
This is my last night in NSW for a while, tomorrow morning I will arrive in Queensland. The roads are all dry but a lot of warning signs - “Soft Edges” and areas of water either side of the road left over from the recent flooding as well as some road repairs. Won’t be a problem for me until I get much further north.
Have a terrific Tuesday - what’s the plan for today?
I have been a member of the Backpackers Club for over 20 years
Normally we go ‘snailin’ which is crawling round the hills with yer 'ome on yer back
But for the AGM we hire a village hall & proper campsite so we can all mix & chat, approve accounts, and so on
Club members are from all parts of the UK, so we hold the AGM in a different region each year, so everyone gets a chance to go
This year it was in Llandegla, a small village in north Wales, west of Wrexham
The weather was good, apart from a shower on Friday night…visits to the pub … the meeting itself was on Saturday afternoon, followed by a nice meal, a quiz and a raffle
Just got back from a small trip up country to take “Mrs G” to a show and later to an outlet retail park for some shopping. Today, we’re unpacking our stuff and later “Mrs G” will be off to see my father-in-law for the day, leaving me at home - which means I’ll be de-weeding our front drive and as well as assorted things which need doing around the house.
Morning all – another sunny day forecast – I could get used to this!
Gardener arrived yesterday and did a very good job tidying the garden and restocking the planters with some very colourful plants (no I don’t know what they are!)
Had a phone call from my brother yesterday afternoon. Mum has stopped eating again and is also refusing drinks, when he visited her she didn’t know who he was. The doctor has said all they can do is keep her comfortable and pain free.
He also told me he had been in hospital himself with a heart condition – I am furious that his family failed to tell me! Just because I live the other side of the world doesn’t mean I don’t care! He has made light of it saying he was only in there for 3 days and is now back home and recovering.
Only plans for today are some shopping and some laundry to take advantage of the sunshine!
Good morning, fine people! It looks as if it will be another hot one here in the south. All the gardening & yardwork must be done before 11am or I SUFFER.
I pray that all of you have a great day, and remember to be thankful for what you have.
Good Morning Everyone…
I couldn’t resist the temptation of my longer walk this morning even though yesterday was spent climbing ladders and scrambling around on the roof. I cleaned all the plastic stuff on the gable end, much to the annoyance of all the spiders who have made it their home. Holding a bucket of water and grasping the ladder from 30 foot up while a hairy spider walks along your arm can be quite daunting…
While I had the long ladder out I decided to climb up on the roof and make some adjustments to my short wave antenna on the chimney…
How long do you think I can survive without a mobile phone?
Vodafone put up my annual subscription to nine quid!
In just one year it’s gone up from £6 to £9 so I cancelled my direct debit as a form of protest.
They’ve cut me off…
I expected them to ring me up and we could discus the matter…I’ve been with them for over 25 years…I’ve been a loyal customer…Apparently it’s not reciprocated…
