Good Morning Tuesday 28th May 2024

Good morning to you all on this glorious warm and sunny Tuesday in Central Queensland.

Today I am in Blackall from where the expression “Beyond the Black Stump” originates. Apparently all Queensland planing and measurements were taken from a stump in this town including the location of other towns. Anything west of here is beyond the black stump.

The original stump was lost in a bushfire but was replaced with a petrified wood stump.

Thus endeth the lesson for today.

Have a lovely day, make sure you get up to mischief.

Morning Bruce, and all who follow. Bruce, that is such an interesting little story!

I was up with the sun this morning, beautiful sunrise - so fresh and clear…a proper Spring morning. Busy day today…places to go, people to see, potentially good outcomes to be had…

But first, breakfast :bowl_with_spoon:

Have a lovely day everyone!

Good morning @Bruce and @PixieKnuckles and to all forumers. I’ve been up since day-break, having my muesli brekkie at the moment, seems quite sunny but clouds are already around in the distance , eventually showing up in the afternoon, making the rest of the day gloomy,as usual. Summer should be around the corner, but we’ve just about started having real “Springy” weather.

good morn all
couple of things, Sue’s car is going in for a service so waiying for it to be collected. Our cars are on 3 year extended service contracts, so if the service price goes up ours won’t.

I have also booked myself in for an eye checkup with Specsavers todaya. Won’t be going back to the one I have been going to because the lady optician I don’t think she knows what she is doing. I wanted a different lens for one eye as vision is blurre a bit in it. SO she quickly went through 6/7 “the test” djustment lenses and declared that she didn’t have one strong enough. Silly" btch" I didn’t want one that was stronger I needed one for sharpness and clarity. She also didn’t do Sue’s properly either so we have both left and going over to the above.

Morning all – dull and wet today, feel sorry for those parents having to entertain children on half term holiday!

Had a long phone call from my brother yesterday – discussed problems his son is having at work and also Mum’s declining memory. We still managed to laugh and insult each other. I really look forward to his calls – yesterday we spoke for an hour. His mobile package includes 30 hours of free international calls per month, which is why he rings me (last time I rang him it cost me almost £50!)

Have finally got into the Jeffrey Deaver book and am now three quarters the way through it. Another book was delivered yesterday – I am scared to work out how much I have been spending on books! :pound:

The Cheese Rolling event went ahead – there are several races, one was won by a man from Germany, another by a woman from USA and another by a man from the local village. As far as I am aware there were fortunately no bad injuries this year

Today I will ring the travel agent before paying the balance for my holiday in July. The last two holidays I booked with them were cancelled so I want to check this one is still going ahead!

Take care – have a great day

eye check done and got it done under the NHS as there was quite a difference from last time. Two pair of glasses for the price of one and a slight UV filter on as well to protect the eyes. What a difference from the old opticians in listening and checking with better equipment. Pick them up in 2 weeks time

Good morning from the land of thick air and thin wallets.

The tourists are raising their sleepy heads to make the reverse pilgrimage after the long weekend, and we are on the road heading to New Orleans to get passports. The drive is a nice one across marshy wetlands with expansive views. We left the house with nothing more than phones and chargers, but are suddenly entertaining the wild hair of finding a little boutique hotel and wandering around the French Quarter and Garden District for the evening. NOLA, as it is affectionately called, is a strange melting pot of the flamboyant, antique, gastronomic, fringe, Old World, and weirdly elegant. It is an acquired taste, for sure (and definitely wouldn’t be at the top of the list for those who might eventually be US bound), but good fun for a quick little escape.

Pleased the eye appointments, breakfast, books, and petrified logs are all as they should be.

To stay or not to stay, that is the question…

I hope you have a pleasant day!
